I don't care if I'm going 100, if someone is going faster than me I move over.
If I'm not passing anyone, I'm in the right lane.

Saw a guy doing that shit on I66 coming out of DC.
Going 60 in the left lane, and when anyone would get close to him or flash the lights he would brake check them.
Probably did it to over a dozen people, and that was just the little while I was in sight of him.

I was shocked, he wasn't even in a Prius.

For clarification...

I didn't state that they shouldn't move over or implying I would not have. I was just pointing out that passing only applies when maintaining a safe and legal speed.

I probably would not have responded at all except for the fact that code was posted. You will never argue your way out of a speedi g ticket by saying you were passing. Socially it is accepted to get the hell over regardless of speed.

I just can't help but have the cop in me come out when code is quoted in an disingenuous manner.

I feel that those who insist on backing up traffic by refusing to move over should be flogged in the town square.
But I spend far too much time on the interstate, so it's a bit of a sensitive subject for me.

On the pike this afternoon headed into Boston there was an asshat doing 55 in the left lane, but kept swerving half way into the middle lane. I really didn't want to pass him on the right. But crawling up his 6 and flashing the high beams didn't get the message across either.
Probably drunk. Stay way clear.

There are videos showing someone doing this, driving the speed limit in the left freeway lane during rush hour when everyone else is running at least 10 over. The officers here kind of look the other way when traffic is moving well and it is busy. The vids show the cop coming up behind the slow driver and lighting him up. When he's back in the slow lane, the cop will just shut the lights down and continue past him.

What it amounts to is that pulling someone over when traffic's heavy will cause multi-mile backups and possibly rear-end collisions. As long as nobody's doing anything reckless and/or stupid, they leave well enough alone.

The staties do freeway patrol in Detroit because the city can't afford to and the county doesn't do much road patrol anymore.

I agree your an ass if you ride in the left lane. I was just responding to the legal aspect...

And now back to our regularly scheduled rants...

Earlier this spring, future Mrs1911fan and I were on the way into school/work, and saw a woman standing in the Wenatchee River, naked. It was about 60 degrees and the river was high and cold. No idea why, as we went by at 60mph.

Years ago. Riding home on my 76 BMW R100RS. In my usual riding gear, jacket, gloves, FF helmet, jeans and boots. Sitting at a stop light, bike quietly idling "tapocketa, tapocketa, tapocketa" like old airheads do.

Harley Dude on a somewhat cobbly Superglide pulls up and stops next to me. Loud pipes, and he lets me know it. No helmet, flannel shirt (unbuttoned), jeans and boots. Just to make sure I hear the loud pipes, he continually revs the big v-twin over and over, "BWAPPPPP, BWAPPP, BWAPPPPP!!" like a HD sounds on straight pipes.

I of course, being a friendly biker, look over and nod. BMW still idling quietly, nothing to prove here. Just getting ready for the green light.

Just to be sure he has the green light on me, Harley Dude revs it a bit more for takeoff,......and the mighty HD belches, "POOH!!" and stalls. Stalls because the ENTIRE carb and intake manifold assembly had shot off the side of the engine and is now swinging freely alongside the bike from the throttle cable still attached to the grip which now can only hang the carb.

I pull away quickly and quietly, LAUGHING MY DAMN ASS OFF!!!

True story.

Cool story, bro.

Actually I'd have probably crashed from laughing so hard.

Nothing better than some harmless fun at the expense of the scowling Hard-Dudes.

Welcome to DC. Home of the passive aggressive or just plain aggressive driver. Thankfully, its gotten better over the years. When I was in HS and was driving around the Beltway, there'd ALWAYS be some yahoo doing exactly the speed limit (55mph) in the left lane and refusing to move regardless of how many people passed em on the right.

Nowadays, it seems that folks are doing 10 over in the left lane and refusing to move. Same problem, just higher speeds. It gets harder to complain, but... If you're being passed on your right side, you're too far left. Move the funk over. Easy concept. Right?! Evidently not.

Hell, I typically set the cruising control at an indicated 67mph while driving up 66 and get passed like I'm standing still. ...and yes, I'm as far to the right as I can get. Thinking back, I don't think I've been left of the 2nd lane lately. I'm just not going that fast.

When riding past, I look over (to my left) at em, turn back forward, and shake my head sadly. As I'm doing this I keep making my way thru traffic.

Sometimes it even works and they pull out of the left lane.

Most times they're oblivious that they're doing something wrong.

I want to make an exact copy of this sign out of fabric, scaled to fit the entirety of the back of my riding jacket and attach it there. I'm afraid, though, that it'll set some moron off on the path to road rage while I'm commuting to work and am coincidentally unarmed. Then again, the looking at the idiot while passing on the right and shaking my head in disgust is likely to do that too I suppose.
