Odd commute yesterday. I ride I-95 which is the only North-South interstate along the East Coast. It is a major commuter route into and out of Washington DC. In the summer, I might see one or two bikes on my way home. I've always thought there should be a lot more commuters on bikes since they are allowed to ride the HOV lanes. Perhaps it is because I live so far South of the heaviest traffic.

Well, yesterday morning it was 35 degrees and the ride home was 48. I had my heated gear on in the morning and still layered up pretty well in the afternoon. Strangely, I found myself riding with three other bikes. I NEVER am around that many bikes even when the temps are in the mid-70s. One was a BMW RT (2 up), one was a newer Connie and one was a bagger Harley.

Now, about that Harley... I couldn't stand to be near that guy. His pipes were so friggin loud that it made my ears bleed. It was a low pitched rumble that just SUCKED! Maybe loud pipes will save this guy because nobody wanted to be within a quarter mile of his obnoxious ass. I couldn't get away quickly enough.

Dad and my little brother rode from VA to Sandy Eggo to visit me. Dad broke down on his 'Wing in Flag. Little brother kept going.

I rode back to Flag with my little brother. He was on an Ultra Classic. I was on my RT. Little brother was kvetching about how he rode right up behind Dad, but Dad was always 1/4mi back.

...then I rode behind little brother's Ultra for a bit. You couldn't hear shit-nuthing within that 1/4mi of his exhaust. Too effing loud.

So I spent the night, and returned to Sandy Eggo by way of the GC the next day. Its fun riding thru Amboy and 29Palms in July ...

I had someone do that yesterday as well. Right on the ass of my work truck and passed on a double yellow. Then the car in front of it and so on. No cops around though :(

The kicker was this woman had a young child in the front seat. I really wish I had gotten it on video or wrote down the tag number.

^^^ That.

No need for "Road raged, but I was in the right" on your tomb stone.
Or to perpetuate the stereotype that "all them bikers are da same, assholes". Even if you are an asshole, don't perpetuate the stereotype.

Likewise, it was the absolute coldest days - the very few of them - when I had six layers on top, and three layers for pants, etc. that I would see a few bikers I'd never see any other time of the year when I commuted 400 and more miles a week, every week.

I rode the same stretch so much, so I really got a feel for the bikers who commuted, and when they did so (up to a point), but there were three bikes and riders commuting on only those coldest days. And by cold, I don't mean a pleasant riding temperature, but instead in the 30's.

It was as if they were trying to prove to their co-workers how hardy they were, where-as during the heavy tropical rains (basically NO other bike commuters on my 40 mile route) or hot days (fewer commuters) I wouldn't see them, nor the other riders I'd pass on the way to work.

It was just silly, but whatever...

Question Comuting=errands ?

Okay, so I wasn't commuting, but I was running around town.
ALL the electricity in the area went out, including the traffic lights.
That was fun!

Apparently everyone under the age of thirty doesn't know that you are supposed to treat dead traffic lights like a four way stop. And cell phones don't help.

I just assumed everyone was trying to run me over, (as usual) and was pleasantly surprised when they didn't try.

That's funny shit right there.

You are making an ASSumption about someone you know nothing about.

So am I to understand that you think it is OK to call law enforcement and file a false report... All from a moving vehicle where you are either taking a picture, video taping or finding a writing instrument to write down said offenders plate number to call in the false report?

Would that not make you worse (more dangerous) than the offending driver? Like I said. Worse than a woman. (no offense meant to the ladies... I am speaking to the offending woman in context)

I think endangering that child is worse than escalating a reckless driving call to a drunk driving call.
