Quite right ole boy! Pressure is all important to the Doyle Gradient... so actually "I should have known!"

That's my favorite brand of blinker fluid.......

Sometimes I apply a little just before I torque my muffler bearing.....

True story

I few years back I was at a party and discovered several folks who rode Motorcycles. We were discussing some engine problem when a non rider joined the group and after a minute added to the conversation "Ive heard that you might need to tighten the power band since they can get stretched after hard use." We all nodded and launched into the blinker fluid discussion, the proper torgue on the muffler bearings and such. He was a good guy and never new the difference.

Another POG story...

Oh BTW no one has commented on my "you should have known" ending. Anyone remember where that comes from... Hint the guy's first name was Vic.

Several years ago, a radio station in Montgomery started calling people (especially women) who had left their cars at a certain repair shop (all as part of an elaborate, if emabarrassing as campaign) and telling them they needed all sorts of work done to their cars.

They mentioned things like changing the air in the tires ($8 per tire), adding blinker fluid, torquing the muffler bearing, and all sorts of other unnecessary repairs. Many of the owners listened intently and eventually approved the added expense. Once they had done that, the dj would give up the joke and tell all the listeners that the shop doing the advertising would never do things like that.

One girl (who had been raised in a hot rod family) called BS about 15 seconds into the call and was about to hang up and drive down to the shop to teach them some manners.

I still get tickled when I hear youngsters talking about installing a new power band or paying a little extra to get the 'good' power band when they bought new.

Gotta' love it.

I tell ya what Barney, that looks like a real driver's machine right there. Still has 2 wheels too many though, and leans the wrong way in corners...but I don't doubt ya when ya say it's smooth and fast!

Had a great time on the "Got It Made" Tour, this wasn't quite a 3K-mile ride but I was only a couple hundred miles shy of it. Here's a coupla pics of the highlights:

Reached an odo milestone not far from that sign; KLR ran great the entire time, burned 1/2 qt. of oil every thousand miles, just like it's always done. Got my best ever recorded mileage figure (65 MPG) on the Blue Ridge Pkwy, and over a 16-day period gave the bike about 10 minutes of total maintenance time--lubing the chain and adding oil every thousand miles. Never even adjusted the chain! I dunno how many miles she's got left in her but I aim to find out

Spent several days with my dad in VA, this was taken just before I left his place and headed south

The weather changes real quick like on the Blue Ridge Pkwy; it's a beautiful day here at the ranger station/trailhead

But just a few minutes later and a few miles down the parkway at the overlook, it's a different story

Yeah I got rained on a lot. Not a surprise. Spent a fair bit of time exploring the dirt roads off the BRP, you could spend days and maybe weeks checking out all the FS roads off the parkway. This road takes ya to a very secluded overlook--but you'd never know it

Here's the view from a mile or so down that road; not a soul out there.

And lotsa blackberries, free for the pickin

The Cherohala Motorcycle Resort has been the site of many KLR rallies over the years, and the new owners Wayne and Kelly are top-notch people. This place is highly recommended!

Inspected a good many sunsets. I'm an Official Sunset Inspector after all, and take my work very seriously. This was one of the best, at Little River Canyon near Ft. Payne AL:

Rode around in the Sipsey Wilderness on the north end of Bankhead Natl. Forest, a good place to get away from this sick society (cough cough) if ever there was one. That hammock revolutionized my trip; I camped out in places I never would have thought of pitching a tent. And slept like a baby, too.

Spent yesterday at the Barber Museum; well worth the $15 admission! Plan on spending the whole day, you'll need it. It's the largest motorcycle collection in the whole world, after all
