Davebert yer gonna make my belly an internet meme before it's all over...and I thank you for it

OK a few more pics before I call it a night--I was cruising the Ortega Hwy and saw this wildland firefighter's memorial

Pic's a little blurry, here's a closeup

It was surprising to see how many men in California alone have given their lives fighting forest fires...Warriors, they are

While puttering around on the Ortega I stopped in at Hell's Kitchen, which is a big cruiser-centric hangout. The pirates looked at me kinda funny on my KLR; didn't bother me none. The owner of this establishment may or may not be a Republican

No I didn't get the Big Spender Burger--because I'm a KLR rider, see. "It's Only Money" is not a sentiment I'm personally familiar with. I was offended at the language on this sign too; the fukken nerve some people have, I tell ya

I paid a visit to Chaparral Motorsports in San Bernardino, and wandered around their 25K-sq. ft. tire warehouse. Each rack is dedicated to a specific brand, and every brand is represented. Even Kenda and Shinko, for us KLR riders; impressive, to say the least

Took CA18 north of San Bernardino and went up to the mountains of the San Bernardino Natl. Forest, where I inspected this amazing sunset just outside the little town of Rimforest, on a firetower road

Pretty incredible views up there. Dogwood Campground is the nicest NF campground I've ever seen, it's clean and well-maintained (with hot showers too!), and the 5600' elevation takes a real edge off the heat; at $28/night, it's pretty spendy for a KLR rider tho

Too bad there's no dirt roads to explore in the area; this is just outside San Bernardino

And what visit to SoCal would be complete without a trip to the beach? Buenaventura State Park, just outside Ventura; it was overcast and surprisingly cool, and the beach was somewhat empty

Sunset over Lake Elsinore, on the South Main Divide

I give this sunset 4 stars

Yeah, there's even more...

So I've heard about this mythical Route 33 that runs north out of Ojai CA, but I'd never ridden it before. Had to go check it out

It's a great road; well-paved, twisty enough to be very entertaining, lightly traveled, didn't see any LEOs. On the weekends, it's popular with the sportbike crowd, and not hard to see why

Camped out here in Wheeler Gorge, where the campsites were $23 and you couldn't drink the water due to coliform contamination. Oh well, ya can't win 'em all

At least there were trees suitable for tying my hammock off to; this hammock beats sleeping on the ground anyday

Just outside Ojai I stopped by the Deer Lodge for a damn fine Kobe beef burger with garlic fries and washed it down with a Firestone IPA. Most excellent; and look at the selection of beers on tap--that's what I'm talkin about!

This place used to be a watering hole for cattle ranchers and dates back to the 1930's, or so I was told. The bartender told me Johnny Cash lived down the road in the early 70's and used to hang out here and do some serious drinkin

Right down the road from Wheeler Gorge is Wheeler Springs, home of the country's smallest post office

I rode Hwy 33 'til dark, and had a good time doing it; had the highway pretty much to myself, which suited me just fine; I just wanted to get outta this sick society after all cough cough

From Ojai I headed south to the Santa Monica Mtns. to ride the famous Mulholland Hwy

Stopped in at the Rock Store on Mulholland (I've been told Jay Leno hangs out here on weekends), but it was closed; so I had beef jerky, crackers and water for lunch instead of a burger 'n' beer. Hey, I couldn't complain--it was a beautiful day and I had nothing to do but ride my bike! Life is good...

More to come later

Loving the pics, buddy. But you look to have 3.67 miles left on that rear tyre.

Nosir that's an optical illusion right there, see I'm running a TW22 DeathWing that has a continuous center tread, and it always looks bald from a distance. Here's that same tire as of a few minutes ago:

Still got lotsa life left in it for a frugal KLR rider like me

That center tread is why I like this tire, I got over 10K outta the last one I ran, the only tire I've ever been able to do that on. Naturally it ain't great offroad, but then neither is the KLR

That's just the IneptiGarage, see. And that indoor/outdoor carpet remnant, while not exactly priced right, was at least priced somewhat competitively for a cheap bastardfrugal KLRista like myself
