Taillace, thanks for giving me the MM, I must have missed the conversations about it. The Zumo 550 wouldn't let me input DD's coordinates. could input on the computer though, but even it showed the location way to far North.

I was just checking my maps and the new OR map has you routed around that road now. You don't get on 3343 at all. It has you going to the end of 5520 to 3348 and then left to 33.

blaisew and OLH,

Watching with recent memories in mind - I just rode the eastern TAT a few weeks ago out to OK, so watching your trip report is like hearing a pleasant echo.

Best of luck -- enjoying the report so far.

I have the new route so it shouldn't be a problem then,,whew!!

Road the last 25 or so miles in Tenn, and rode Miss until New Albany when we got into some good thunderstorms. So we ended up hightailing it to Batesville Miss.

We did have a wee bit of fun before high tailing it to the room. Had more off road sections to the trail, which some of it had me on edge. I'm still learning off road skills......Had my first get off today ridding though a little rough..for me...section of mud and tried to avoid the rut but it just sucked me in. It was muddy too. I tried not to look at it, but knowing it was there had me on edge, but the bike drifted into it and I promptly dropped the bike. We not all the way on it's side since the rut held it up. I waited all of 15 seconds for one of the lead guys to come back and take a picture, but he wasn't fast enough. Oh well maybe next time. Ken is usually leading, with Kevin 2nd and me third. Now Kevin isn't going to leed as far ahead to be able to get back in time to snap photos of when I drop the bike again.

Shortly after that I found a little bit of sand which had me turned sideways on thetrail, but I didn't drop the DRZ. Stopped about three times but got out of it. The Ken and Kevin had a nice elevated vantage point from a bridge about 25 yards up the trail....hmm, no pictures either.

The saddle bag w/ some Miss mud.....

Nice new frosting on the DRZ...

Great RR!
I'm in.. You guys ride safe. Hope the weather holds. Looks like the chances of rain are dropping for a few days, and the temps too.

Looks like more rain today, but today will be spent doing bike maintenance here in Batesville, Ms. I went ahead and changed the oil on the DRZ this morning, got lucky and found 2 qrts of Amsoil 20w50 at Big Delta Honda, plus installed a stainless reusable filter which I've been carrying. Big Delta was kind enough to let me change oil in the parking lot, plus provided a catch pan for the oil. They don't have that much motorcycle supplies, more of a ATV dealer.

Took time this morning to oil the air filter and check the wiring out on the bike, wanted to make sure there wasn't anything chaffing, had that problem w/ the G/S. I've modified the wiring so much it is worth looking into. No surprises....yet.

Ken went ahead and washed his bike off last night.....he's more anal than me (LOL) or maybe the leed bike just doesn't get dirty? He didn't want to change the rear tire (going to Dunlop 606's) on a dirty rim if he didn't have to.

Ken and Kevin are both running the tubliss tire thingy, pretty neat setup, but cost about $100 per tire. possibly saves time in repairing tires and probably more durable than tubes.

After Ken's tire it was on to Kevin's rear. He knows how to get miles out of his tire.....not much rubber left. Bad thing is, he can still ride me into the ground.....

Reardensteel, thanks for the link. Kind of a weather report for us. Good picts, looks like CHALLENGES AHEAD. Not for Ken and Kevin. So far in TN and Miss things haven't been too bad. The much anticipated/ dreaded creek crossings weren't too bad. I'm nervous about the more technical sections mainly due to my inexperience.

A side note- I've been wearing the asteriks knee braces, while a pain to put on, comfort isn't bad at all and I don't notice them too much. I do find myself pushing them up the knee a little bit during the day.

Kevin just broke his rear brake lever, so now he's looking for someone to TIG it.

Hey Richard I forgot about THIS. I created it last year for my ride and it is still up. Only goes as far as Buena Vista Colorado but it has a bunch of local forecasts in your path and some national maps that will be helpful. All in one place.

Got the brake lever welded up at no cost, he's Kevin installing it. So what's the lesson learned......? DON'T TRY AND BEND ALUMINUM WHICH HAS BEEN WELDED ON.
