They did not do my "dirty work" for me they helped me do it... I was right there with them working.

Yeah, in a way it does make me believe in some higher being, fate, or the triumph of "good over evil" whatever that means. Sports can be so much more than just a game.

I don't actually think that my hat supports the belief in fate or the little guy struggling against all odds. The Sox had opportunties in the last, what, 86 years to win the World Series, but they didn't. Some say it was a curse that kept them from winning, but wearing a Sox hat should mean that I support the team regardless and don't believe in some stupid curse. That they finally won this year is indeed a huge triumph, not against all odds, but a triumph over the supposed fate of the Red Sox to be the eternal losers. Sure, there was part of me that feared the Sox wouldn't do it and because of that, their victory was a moment of the impossible made true.

...and your Sox tape is waiting for you when you get home. At least now you have SOMETHING to look forward to when your fatherland walkabout is over~

Over the years you might have given up faith, but never hope. Right?

Yup, I think this is true for all Sox fans, and probably also for those at the USA hockey game 25 years ago. They hoped against hope that USA would beat Russia, but did anyone believe it was possible?

Then wear a real sox hat and not one of those silly molded-brim, small cap, made-in-china imitations.
