Russkij business..They claim it works and they offer 1Gb and 2 Gb cards for 27x Garmins.1-2 Gig memory cost few $ today but it's a big PITA to replace original Mbs with aftermarket Gbs.
Anybody flying to Moscow these days?

A
The 2gb part is interesting. Pirating maps onto a card, not so much to stay within ADV's site rules. So let's keep this focused on storage size > 512mb, m'kay?

I always guessed that the 512mb was a function of the operating software on the GPS as well as the physical memory.

Any details on how they overcome firmware limitations that may exist? First thing I noticed was that all the screens were in Russian.

Might be simpler to take $200 and burn it. You'll have the entertainment of a small fire and no illusions that something will be arriving in the mail (that may or, probably, not work)

I've had one of my cards apart. It is a 32 (64? can't remember but it's a bunch) pin eprom inside. I don't know for sure but I am guessing that that the storage card size is based on the technology inside the unit.

Yeah - there is a thread buried in here somewhere of a guy who did his own 512 chip with a cheap aftermarket and then soldering it into an existing holder. Was a pretty frankenstein affair, but it supposedly worked.

I guess you can do the same with a chip and circuit board, but I wonder what kind of firmware change is needed to address the additional memory capacity. I would think the unit would require it, but don't know for sure.

I guess its very possible with the latest firmware updates on these units, the limit really isn't 512 and that's just the largest chip Garmin ever made for them. That would be the best case scenario. I'd be pretty surprised though if they accepted anything over 1-2gb as far as readable memory.

I have seen the solution with 1 and 2 Gb data cartridges. It works!

And are you selling them? In that case, your sales information will need to go to our Vendors forum.

And if you are selling them, would you please explain the licensing of the map content contained on the chips?

Thanks,

Dave

The chips are clean, with no maps!

And as suppliers to go to the section?
Thank you.

It seems from the web addresses provided that you are the person selling these. If that is true, then please start a thread in the Vendors forum if you will be offering them for sale on ADV.

There are additional conditions for the opening theme?
Thank you.

garminych, if you actually are selling 1gb+ cards for the 276c, please do post a thread in the vendors forum and let us know in this thread you have started a thread so we can go find it.

I know I for one would be interested. I have a 376c & 478.

Unlike Dave, I'm not hung up on 'the rules.' If I can get a big enough card for my 276c that I know will work, I'll find a way to get the $$ to get one.
