Good ride today everyone.
It was chilly but fun. The scooter hit new milestone.

It was a great meet, and the ride with TimCC was great too- the sun even came out briefly on the ride home.

Holy crap! 20K in "scooter miles" has to be like 60K in "motorcycle miles"!

Well done!

We'll have to try that place sometime when it is open!

Seriously, between coffee and pie we got a whole lotta riding to do!

At our mini M&G today I mentioned the Dual Sport Maps web site and Android app and it seemed that not everyone is aware of it...

Here is the website, which is useful on it's own, but even more-so with the Android DSM app:
http://www.dualsportmaps.com/?id=tracks

The Android app is not free- in fact at $20 it is quite pricey for an Android app.

However in my use it has worked well and the author has been extremely responsive to suggestions and feature requests.

Currently in prototype form (in production soon) is a handlebar-mounted remote that lets you interact with the app on your phone or tablet when it is sealed in a RAM-Mount Aquabox or similar, preventing the use of the touchscreen. This remote will also provide power to the device and also provides GPS for cheap tablets that lack their own GPS.

More about the Android app here:

That is a lot of miles on little wheels!

It was fun having coffee with everybody. Very chilly ride back, I may need some warmer gloves.

Apparently that's a lot of miles on little wheel bearings as well....too many actually. Poor Vespa had to get a trailer ride from my house to Tim's yesterday after the Delafield M&G.

That's a lot of miles on the scoot. Pretty cool.

What is the service interval for the wheel bearings, anyways?

I haven't been able to find a specific recommended mileage for the bearings. The manual mentions them only as part of a general check of the suspension during regular maintenance. I have a suspicion that the real cause of the failure was my inexperience working on it. I might have over tightened the nut. The accuracy of my harbor freight torque wrench is in doubt.

Mini KLR Tech Day in SW Wisconsin

Is anyone in the SW Wisconsin area?

This coming Saturday I'm hosting a mini Tech Day in my shop, so far just me and one other KLR owner.

Location: 6337 County Road N, Avoca, WI 53506

Time: I should be around from 9am til 4pm (later if necessary).

We both have the doo to do and valves to adjust, plus a variety of other stuff.

I've only got a single ATV jack, but we're a creative lot and I plan to be working on the bikes most of the day.

Feel free to drop in and make fun of us, or even better lend us your expertise! :-) Let me know if you think you might come so I can stock the beverage fridge appropriately.

If you're on Facebook you could also RSVP here: https://www.facebook.com/events/221499871291043/

Tom

Sorry for the short notice!

The plan came together quickly during the last week after Zaboo65 inquired about KLR "doohickey" knowledge.

However, *after* this Saturday Zaboo65 and I will be "doo" Pros and can likely be talked into assisting at a future maintenance meet-up.

Then you can share your "Honey-do" experiences with us!
