It sure does..but most satellite pictures can be old...the forrest doesn't move. You notice white snow caps on the rockies where you saw me trailing the trails. Unfortunaltely there are NO snowcaps this month!

cheers..

Big Bike Passs...

I know it's Saturday and all of you are either riding or with Family.

Anyone know the "Big Bike" Mountain passes here in sequence all the way to Monticello, UT?

LEAVING MONDAY AM..

1)..Marshall pass

2)..Cinnamon pass ??

3)..Monarch pass ??

4) California pass ??

5) ??

6) ??

There are supposed to be 6 of these?

Appreciate your input

Cheers....

i could be wrong (first time for everything-) but the only big bike bypass in CO was for Hancock/Tomichi and is Marshall Pass. Everything after Marshall you just ride in order. I'm at work and don't have my maps here.

Hey Elmer, the only passes which Sam suggested to bypass on the TAT if you were on a big bike were Tomichi & Hancock. If I'm correct, both of those have since been removed from the updated TAT maps.

If you want to get some local info, Salida has a friendly ADV community. Try to get in touch with either Hayduke (he owns Fat Tees downtown), or CodyS (he helped me out last year when I was running the TAT with my dad by receiving tires for us and putting us up for a night).

Both are really nice guys and know a lot! If you do talk to or meet up with CodyS say hi to him for me!

Looks like it it'll be OK.....except that I am a bit BIGGER..remember that my rig will lean to the extreme left when running left leaning slope..no way to correct for this except putting another boulder on the running platform on the sidecar. No problem for the right leaning as I have an electronic tilt which will correct road crown Stay tuned..

cheers...

Salida-Day 2

Walked down the road in dry, cool..breathable weather....seeking breakfast. I always scour for local fares hardly patronize big corporate institutions for my on road feeds!

Found one!

Huech Rancheros: 2 sunny side up eggs on top of !@#$%^^/ tortilla. Great presentation, best scone.. coffee.
BUT it was heavy on les beans..BEANS...afraid that I'll stink up Salida and cause another forest fire .

Off to see inmate Hayduke..

Hayduke at Fat Tees

Haydukes store...ADVrider..TAT slayer..store owner for Tee's...Mountain or surrounding area information...

His retired bike in the window..

Hayduke in the flesh....

Discussed the Pass routes from my Garmin Basecamp and Mapsource GPS files here. He didn't anticipate any problems unless I do the Corkscrew pass..remember I am a big 3 wheeled small SUV with only one wheel drive although have powerful brakes on the bike and sidecar. Just still might be dicey for the down slope as Sam warned us TAT'ers to take heed on this descend.

Then mentioned that a friend of mine had havoc on a strip of Poncha road/pass. on the way to Marshall pass'es route.

The lower gray "track" is the new TAT route by Sam. In order to avoid this....just stay with the old TAT route(magenta) and head up Marshall pass to Sargents.

Thanked him for his info and bid him adieu and good business

cheers..

Interesting, I didn't know that Sam had changed that section of the route. But yeah, HayDuke is right, Poncha road gets a bit tricky and rocky once you near the top. The traditional Marshall pass road is nice though.

Salida-Day 2

Upon exiting Fat Tees..again met lady inmate Esther (souldreamrider) pulling in. Met her at the an Espresso shop this morning as she noticed my ADV/TAT rig. Nice gal, from Hawaii and difficult to lip read so she wrote things down on paper...is also headed whereabout the Rockies. She's staying with Hayduke.

Then off to lunch...

There's never a day with out some curious lookers, questioners, thumbs up people, honkers..even old ladies wish their husband would get something like that...is it the color or contraption?

Aye....my new Prilosec, Omerprazole, Zandac...wooo..weeee...stops em cold ???

cheers...

Thanks XCRider..for the heads up on Hayduke and Cody. There was a bit of ruffled feathers of why Sam took out Hancock and Tomichi.."too hard on man and machine"...maybe..just maybe--- so he threw in this Poncha Road/pass to satisfy the hard cores. Sissies like me take Marshall Pass and beyond !

cheers..

The fine Town of Salida...

Today is Saturday and the Town is crawlin' with Touristas galore...good for the Obama economy...good for the local folks. Most as you can see by the license plates are from outside Colo and with dogs and screaming kids in tow...

Siesta time.....bbzzzzzzzz....

cheers..
