At least I got a free 990 when I bought my $25,000 white KTM cap.

After discovering that US dealers won't ship to Australia, I decided to go to the source. It seems that there are still plenty of dealers in Germany who will happily ship parts to Australia for prices even lower than the US figures, and then knock the VAT off those prices too, seeing as it's an overseas sale.
For example, I recently bought a new rear brake light switch from my local dealer (needed it in a desperate hurry for a roadworthy), for $40. Ktm-Parts.com sell the same part for $24 USD (~ $23 AUD). Once you add in shipping, it's almost not worth it, unless ordered with other stuff. However, My German freind sells it for 13.5 Euro, or about $18 AUD, with very competitive air freight charges. Hunt around and you shouldn't have to much trouble finding out a dealer in-country that does overseas shipping. For now, I honestly believe thats the best option. |

The only reason why we buy motorcycles from them in this country is because 1), You cannot, by law, import a brand new vehicle from overseas, when the same vehicle is being sold locally, and 2), They honour the KTM factory warranty. There is many thousands of dollars difference in the brand new price of a KTM in Australia and one in the USA. I don't know what justification there is for even that disparity? It is becoming a global marketplace, where, with the rise of the internet, pretty much any consumer good is no further away than your computer. The only real sacrifice made (in some instances) is the time it takes for the item to get here. In a world where instant gratification is king, we're not prepared to pay exorbitant amounts of money for it. The sooner KTM Australia review their spare parts pricing structure to bring it inline with the rest of the world, the sooner all parties involved will be happy. |

Because we all know about it in Oz, and it might be nice for the world to know. Maybe it will embarrass KTM HQ in W.A. ??

It’s all a load of horse shit, it’s all about what the market place will stand for, and companies are run by financial strategists and accountants. It well know in the UK car prices on average 20% more expensive than the rest of Europe, even the cars made here. The US for KTM bikes and parts is cheaper than Europe, all about buying power.
I had to order my bike from a KTM dealer, none about, nine months late another dealer was selling the same bike £1500 cheaper with £1000 of extras. My dealer told me they could not even purchase direct from KTM for price the other dealer was selling it for!!!!!! Bullshit. The reason prices are so high in Aus and Nz, simple supply and demand; they will charge whatever they think the market will support. Solution, import your own parts and have the bare minimum services to validate your warrantee and supply your dealers machanic with the KTM parts needed for that service. As long as they are geniun KTM parts they cannot grumble, they wont like it but thats just tuff shit, there are no laws saying you cannot service your own bike if competent. I.e. oil changes. |
