In college I did the route, or one very close to it that came out at Powderhorn, then south on Cebolla to the Los Pinos rd. It is a good trip. There is also one that will take you to Cochetopa Park, right out by the Mercury Mine. But it was kinda of tricky to find. We wasted allot of time on dead ends and could see the highway, but never made it, we were low on gas and had to turn back due to some fences we could not get around. Now this was also 25 yrs ago.

Yeah those roads and trails back there are a real maze, and just because I was able to find what appeared to be a doable track on Google Earth and Bing does not mean it is necessarely possible. However it looks like there are three spots where you can get to Los Pinos Pass (Beaver Creek, Pinto Basin, and Porcupine Gulch) from Gunnison and several others to get to Powderhorn. I think the one that comes out to Cochetopa Park is Beaver Creek, right by the McDonough Reservoir Number 2.

Is this all BLM land or is some of it private owned as in no trespassing?
