Before leaving HVGB - we stopped at Frenchy's to score some more moto parts. My chain seemed to be stretching fast, so I picked up another, and a couple of yammie wheel bearings (6004 is a common #)....Oily, flingtastic chain lube is the ideal for the dusty dirt, anything sticky will just make a grinding compound, we were using 3in1 oil most of the TLH in the dust, messy, but worked great. My chain ended up getting me home.

Off to the Phase 3 over the sketchiest steel grate bridge ever. I thought Jimmy was kidding when he told us about it.

I found the Phase 3 to be the best quailty piece of the whole TLH, a bit marbley above Red Bay, but smooth, and high speed.

we were running an interval in between each other to avoid so much dust.

Once in a while, the wind would cooperate, and come from the side......

We had great weather leaving Goose Bay -

Goodol, what do you think??

We are nearing Port Hope Simpson at this point......

If you're running the TLH clockwise, pass the first gas in PHS, and go to Penny's Pit Stop - look for above average quality gas station sammiches in the cooler made w/homemade bread. YUM.

We decide to head for St. Lewis to find a spot to camp for the night on the coast, but the stiff breeze brought us back inland a bit.

I get to see my first Iceberg here, first of many it turns out.....

If you look close, you can see the "biggest" iceberg on the horizon line......

This shot will go nicely next to my Cape Spear photo from last year.........

A little guy we spotted at the dump on the way down the hill........

evening falls over the bay

camped for the night a bit out of town.............

Packing up quick like in the morning to beat the rain that is just beginning.....

Goodol - what do you think??

Leaving St Lewis in the drizzle, no dust today.

Found a breakfast spot in Marys Harbour -

More icebergs

What do you guys think?

smokebreak in buddys flea market trailer - It was windy + cold.

Got to Blanc Sablon real early, only to see our ship sail without us.

finally on boat #2 -- after the Kaptains Baskets.....

The boat ride had it all - icebergs + sunsets......

Morning breaks over the bikes early in St. Barbe -

No rain today...........Bluebird skies!

Morning in St. Barbe - sun shining on the bikes, it's gonna be a good day.

Gassing up, while Jimmy goes to buy *more* nuts + bolts.

Jimmy's boots are fairing about as well as his luggage racks....

Headed south on the tar, looking to go to the little towns on the east side of the northern peninsula.

Look ma - no hands!

We're headed to Croque and Conche today......

road turns to gravel a ways out of town.

In Croque, buddy Kearney tells us to go have our lunch on his dock.

O-K.

sittin' on the dock of the bay......

Did I mention how nice a day it was? What do you think Goodol??

old sawmill on the premises.....looks like an air cooled 3 cyl diesel boat motor.

check out the rollers made from logs. Awesome.

Chains serviced, lunch eaten, time to head for Conche on the route buddy told us about on the resource roads.

Buddy's route doesn't suck.

the boys seem to be enjoying themselves......

did I mention the weather was prime?

Coming down the hill into Conche..... beautiful.

take the road till it ends, then take photos.

Work it, Jimmy!!

what do you think Goodol?

I spun out on the grass leaving here, the boys were ahead of me, they looked back and saw me flailing about trying to pick my bike up. Good thing they don't have zoom lenses. Don't expect me to take photos of my own bike on the ground, folks.

old plane crash site -

leaving town, Jimmy takes a burn on the local airstrip, hooligan!!

It sure is a pretty place.

Gravel back west towards the 430 hwy.

Late lunch at the Viking 430 gas station - notice the smile, and the strut.

Whatcha looking at Don?

on the road again towards River of Ponds, where we grabbed a cabin for the night.

sunset over the Steady Gas Bar -

River of Ponds through Gros Morne to Deer Lake today, to get on the Trailway - after coming through Labrador, the RV traffic on the Rock is significantly increased. Man, once they pave that.............

Itzanother nice day out there!

quick stop at the Arches for a couple of photos.

Gros Morne is really beautiful in the summer sun.

Jimmy's photo op spot - more chain maintenance on the dock.

Deer Lake, lunch at Mary Browns - Don's favorite.

After getting directions in town - we have found the dirt that leads to the trailway!

someone has the afternoon post lunch doldrums, and needs some wings.

At the Dam, we struggle to find the trailway. Duh, it goes right over the top of the dam, through the chainlink on the other end.

The trail used to wind around at the bottom, not reccomended today.

we hit the trailway, and there is nothing but loose, roundy rail ballast for about 15km. Sket---Chy. Quads have made wheel tracks with a hump of looser! stuff in the middle. The boys drop back a ways here, I was riding the bottom of 3rd, they said they were at the top of 2nd gear. I just wanted to find some hardpack, but alas, it turned to powderey sand before it got better.

the trailway is an old narrow gauge railway, and the bushes are tight to the sides. Handgaurds were in the weeds all day, and the front of my panniers turned green, from hitting the shrubbery.

Coming into Howley -

moose anniversary memorial

After a stop at the store for some iceberg water - back on the trailway.

The Topsail mountains are beautiful - all you folks who stay on the TCH will never see them, the trailway is the only way to get there.

Jimmy - what do you think?

the term "barkbusters" really hit home here.....Glad I have 'em.

Old rail car converted into a camp.

Jimmy spots Caribou #1 - A brown woodland caribou.

Turns out, caribou are wimps, and he runs away, skeered by our Manly Motorbikes.

Jimmy and I reach Badger, and find that Don is not behind us, uh-oh.

"Do you have to get the camera out already?!?" (says Don, who is a little miffed that his "seat came off")

Subframe bolts 0 - NL trailway 2

We limp Don into town with one extra bolt we had, and it's time for me to find a friend we don't have yet. The other bolt is sheared off in the bike, so we need some tools + it's around 8 pm, so time is getting short.

Enter HM - Harley riding Auto body King among Men.....

Ditto! Beautiful shots!

They say that a picture saves a thousand words, but a thousand words sure loads faster on this Interweb thingy, though.
