for this fine ride report and it's photos. I also feel special thanks should be applied for the history that you added to the photos. More depth and understanding was given to each pic, with the history.

And on an added note, I love this "The War to Suppress Yankee Arrogance". I shall need to remember it!!
Thank you. I love history and sharing it with like minded individuals. My daughter is not one of those like minded. She was bored to tears when I dragged her to historic sites as she was growing up. She still has not forgiven me.

Nice MO

Thanks for the report! I'm going to have to try a more southern way next time I'm crossing MO. Usual destinations are STL or points south.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Dean, I'm thinking of visiting some more mills in Sept. You want to join me?

Thank you.

I number of people have asked for the coord of the places I rode. Attaches is my GPX file. It includes mill, springs, places to eat, some crossings and other places I have found interesting over the years. It covers much of mid west and into OK and TX

That is a pivot irrigation system, there is some videos on Youtube showing the Corp blowing the levee at Bird's Point.

I live and farm in Mississippi County, where they blew the levee, some great riding around here !!

And fascinating history. I was just reading about the Battle of Island No 10. I'm going to make a trip to see the battlefield.

What a great RR I'm sorry I didn't see it when you first posted since you were in my home town and I have been to a lot of the same places. Thanks to you I now have some new places close to home to seek out

When you crossed the Castor River at Hahn Mill you were about a mile downstream of one of the most spectacular granite shutins in the state of MO. The granite is the brightest pink you will find, the locals call the area Pink Rock. If you would turn left where the mill wheel is sitting it is about a mile to the parking area and a short hike in to the canyon.

You probably already know about it but since you were so close I wanted to point it out in case you didn't. It is also one of MO's premier whitewater steep creek runs after a good rain.

Here is another Jayhawk fan, Phil in K.C. and PJ in their Shredder

And me in my canoe

Thanks again for the great RR and give a shout out if you are back in the area.

Thanks for checking out my RR.

I did know about the shut-in's by the crossings.

I use to do quite a bit of white water canoeing until my bow partner got married.
