Skibum Soiree 2014, all the way east rally-is anyone interested?

The Skibum Soiree ran consecutively from '09 to '12 in Newfoundland and then pesky life got in the way for 2013 so it don't go.

I'm putting this up to gauge interest for 2014? There will be a sister thread on Ridetherock.com.

I've been looking at a new venue for the next one that has plenty of excellent off road and plenty of excellent scenery that most Advriders and RTR's who've been to my place have not seen.

It's traditionally held around the last weekend of August but that is flexible.

So who wants this to go?

Ridetherock is back, and better yet I'm on a two week rotation so I have time to dedicate to the forums again.

YaaaaaY! That's great new CoolHand, there were a lot of us hanging in limbo. I made sure beerthief.ca was protected after that happened. You still up north?

That coincides very nicely with our plans to be over your way for the last week of August, if you can tolerate a bunch of CFAs.

You're very welcome as long as you bring a lot of Heady Topper and Hill Farmstead with you

I was thinking more on the lines of a five-gallon can of white alcohol smuggled in from St. Pierre, to be in keeping with local tradition.

I don't know if the beer would survive the trip. We tend to fall over a lot, and riding's thirsty work. Do you mind if we run it through our kidneys first?

If you get down this way, I used to be on the board of Trout River Brewing, and still have some cred at their pub.

Damn right, GMB! Have you been following the 2014 "Ride the Rock Mo' Betta" planning thread i? It's shaping up to be epic. I just wish we could buy an old school bus and convince someone that they wanted to spend their vacay driving it around for us and meeting up in the evenings. I'd really like to see what the KDX would do, Rock-wise.

PM or post your prep thread, I'll stop in to torment you, and yes I would like to get down to that pub. In the meantime why don't you just ship me a crate of Heady Topper?

Hey Tumu, you haven't sent me your logo yet? It would be great to see you up my way for sure.

There's another discussion thread going on ridetherock.com too.

Yeah, I'm subscribed on the Mo' Betta thread. Haven't said much, but I've been keeping tabs. The route looks fun and the distances seem to be appropriate for an ADVacation. (tm). You never know, I might be able to convince someone to drive for us - but I don't have bus money.

Dammit!!!! I saw your pm a few nights ago, while, ummm, not exactly sober. And forgot about it. I was hoping to fine tune it a bit in Photoshop, but the missus is away with the Macbook (it is hers after all). The graphics programs on my pc are super shitty. But I'll send ya what I've got. PM me your email address.

Hi Mike

I should be out on your island scooting around in late June, early July...if the Soiree happens then it would be great...if not maybe come out to the west side of the rock and tip a pint with us

I'm not sure either of us were sober enough to remember much but I'm the British chap you met at the overland rally in Vermont a couple of years ago. I think I was riding a rather sorry looking KLR. What I do remember is a great sales pitch for the Skibum Soiree!

With any luck I'll have a couple of weeks to ride there and back from Boston. No real plan yet other than it might be via the TLH on the way there. Actually I was hoping to do that this year but life got in the way.

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,
Graham

I found a "short bus" for sale up by Norton (Norton! I've been watching you. . .) A little scabby, but has the big side doors and a wheelchair lift. Can't imagine it's gone anywhere. They weren't advertising it very passionately. Looked to be a diesel. Now that the snow's on the ground, it may be cheap. If the CFAs show up in the Short Bus with Heady Topper in boxes, I'd bet we'd get the glad eye at the Skibum.

I know a guy that could weld up a helluva trailer hitch.
