Steve this is a great write up. The trick I want to know is for the little snap ring that holds the center gear on the countershaft. I got it off with two flat blade screw drivers but is there a tool just for this type of ring? Looks like two reversed arrows on each end.

John,

I just use the big snap ring pliers. The snap ring is still a pain to remove. Getting it back in place is easy. Just get it on the shaft and use the next gear to push it into place.

Thanks that's exactly what I did. Something I just noticed this afternoon is the original motor out of this bike has hex head bolts in all the cases and covers. The motor that's in the bike that I redid last year has all socket head bolts. I suppose someone could have changed them or did Honda switch at some point.

I'm charging her $250.00. I usually get $50.00 an hour. What with all the picture taking and posting here alone was 1.5 hours yesterday.

The XL owner had that hose made as he couldn't fine a OE part.
