Didn't they start the bogo deals this weekend? Get both

I probably will get both. My kid wants the razr. Not the maxx, though.

Be careful with the regular RAZR. Battery life is short!

That's the kid's problem. I got the Bionic. I almost got the Razr, but the battery cannot be replaced, so I got the Bionic instead. I've had bad batteries in cell phones before. Not being able to replace it was a deal killer.

On the bright side, we had two Razrs on the table and had completed most of the paper work when I found out about the batteries. We were getting two razrs due to the two for one deal. Best Buy matches, so we were getting two phones for $200. If we would have started out with one of each, it would have cost us $250. Since I traded one in on the Bionic, we got them for $200.

Yeah, I almost posted that earlier- non-replaceable battery sucks. That's the tradeoff for thinness.

I'd like to buy a Samsung Galaxy 4.0 Android WiFi/PMP (~$170). But if I could find the phone equivalent that was unlocked and took a full size SIM card, and it wasn't horribly more expensive, I'd buy it instead. I have no plans to use the device as a phone in the USA, but when I travel outside the USA, it would be nice to be able to just pickup a prepaid SIM from a convenience store in whatever country I was in. At home, my non-smart Net10 phone fits my limited cell needs fine for almost nothing, but it only works in the USA. Locally, I'd just use the Galaxy for playing FLAC/Ogg and hot spot WiFi.

Does such a Android phone exist for a reasonable price?

Unlocked and reasonably priced are mutually exclusive.

For a reason.

The "reasonably priced" hand sets you get with a contact are heavily subsidized by the carriers, the carriers won't subsidize unlocked phones. So while they exist, you are going to pay full truck for that piece of technology, and THAT isn't terribly cheap.

Your other issue is going to be that a lot of the androids simply don't have sim cards, that sort of data is in internal memory.

I haven't really tried to break an Android to work over seas, as I can just make the company give me a phone on travel and bypass the whole mess.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. Guess it's the two device solution then, the Galaxy and a cheap third world flip phone with a SIM.

Good new folks: Verizon will be offering a 4G Global Ready phone on Monday! How do I know this? Because I finally got tired of waiting for that combination and ordered a Razr Maxx yesterday.

I go about a day and a half on a full charge.
Then again i keep the wifi, sat. And blutooth off unless needed.

Tell me about it....I have roughly the same size one in my Droid 4 which is essentially the same phone with a keyboard and with heavy 4G use it just dies. I'm going to set it to be in 3G whenever not actively using it. Also to offset that I bought a 7,000 mAh battery backup which is amazing.
