It's out on a few devices, you should get it around September/October.

cyanogenmod has nightlys of jellybean for most devices now....
IMO, the first thing you must do with any android phone, (except maybe the nexus) is install the latest stable cyanogenmod. all the stuff, none of the cruft. Faster, better, longer battery life, etc etc etc. I'm runing ice cream sandwich from cyanogen,on all my devices and will be trying the jelly bean nightlies as soon as I get time. jaz

Nonphone use smart phone
I'm thinking of buying a dated smart phone for nonphone, wifi use.
What phone would you recommend that has the best camera, 16 or 32 gigs, verizon compatibility in case I eventually go with PP, rugged and cheap replacement parts.... An early droid (2,x,x2,etc) has been suggested by a friend. The pic and video quality is one of my top priorities and updating with cyanogenmod Tx |

I have the X2. As a camera, it leaves a lot to be desired.
If you're using it mainly as a camera, you might want to go with the X that has a hard button for the shutter. Browser and other capabilities on wifi are fine. Can pair with a mouse/keyboard for more of a "computer"-experience.

I have the Razr Maxx. I love it, but as with anything, its not perfect.
Camera isn't as good as my old HTC incredible. ICS doesn't blow me away. Battery and performance are great though! I keep telling myself that I won't root this for at least one year. Sent from my fat thumbs on a small touch screen.

I absolutely hate the interface with the camera on the Droid 2. Pictures are ok though, depends on your definition of good.
I am sad to say I never could root that phone with Ubuntu. |

Here's a couple pictures from my droid x. It's an ok camera, better than my original droid, but not iphone quality. For the price of a decent camera these days, it's worth buying one of those. . . . but it's nice to have something with you all the time. The droid x seems to be a pretty tough phone (I'm a carpenter, I abuse my phones), battery life is good (I charge every 2nd or 3rd evening), parts are cheap (I just changed the lcd screen, I bought the phone used with a black spot on it, new screen was $20). I think it's a good phone for the money you can get one for, but I know it's not the latest greatest.

Droid X with the shutter seems the way to go with a Verizon Droid
Any other brand of Verizon phones better than the Droid X? Fleabay/CL has Droid X phones with a good esn for $75 - $150 Refresh me, before handing over cash, call Verizon and verify esn is good and then? put it in my name? PO tells them he's selling it to me? not sure how this works, what's to prevent the PO from reporting it stolen if you don't do it at the time of transaction Tx |

Probably nothing but why would they want to? It does help to know where you can find them later, rather than meeting them in a parking lot. This paid off in spades my last phone purchase.

Dig into the menus. You'll find all kinds of cool, customizable features. I really like the baked-in data monitoring and limiting. The stock photo editing is pretty decent, which is a really good thing since the camera is very average. The widgets are pretty cool. Drag and drop them from the app drawer and play around. App developers have really capitalized on the widget capability of ICS, and the stock widgets are pretty slick too.

OK, a lot of you are talking about using cyanogenmod on your Android device. I have found their website and there is a stable release for my phone. Question is, can I do this? Is it a rather simple process to flash the "new" OS, or is there a high chance I will brick the phone in the process? I am wanting to open up the mobile hotspot function of the phone and I hear this is the way to go.
Just in case, should I download the latest official HTC release of Android 2.3.3 (what I have now) to reload onto the phone if needed, or is that even possible? |
