Need some advice on hauling KLR

I am considering either getting a trailer or maybe try hauling the KLR in my pickup. I am concerned about the safety of getting the bike into the pickup bed. The KLR is a large, heavy and top heavy bike and I can see that if could be dangerous if it "got away from me." Any advice? How do you get your bike into the back of the pickup? What type of ramp do you use? Is it not as big a problem as I am making it? Thanks!

This should not be a fearful escapade...loading in a pick-up. And indeed the benefits of traveling with out a trailer is a big plus unless you have a lot of other accesories involved with a trip that require room for lots of cargo...

That said, it's not so hard to load a 400lbs+ bike all by yourself if conditions are right.
Helps to have rear wheels in the gutter or a low spot. Any ramp will do as long as it's not too short, not going to slide off, does not have too abrupt of an edge.

Not to say that you could never have an issue/episode during load, unload.
But with a hand on the front brake, and a step...like a milk crate or bike stand at the tailgate, a smooth run up into a pick-up can be acheived with ease.
