The last couple games were very telling as to where the Lions need help. If the team could find themselves a stud linebacker and maybe a CB or two that are above average, it would certainly help. A DE with some speed wouldn't suck either.

Fun season nonetheless. Feeling like the offense should be even better next year, once Best and Lashoure are healthy again. Biggest positive is seeing Stafford go through this season without major injury. The fans were definitely worried about having a china doll on our hands.

Megatron is a very rare commodity. Total freak. Looking forward to he and Stafford kicking ass for many years to come.

PS... State Farm really likes pimping your boy.

The big concern now is whether or not he will be interested in a re-structure to lock him in long term. If he forces the Lions to franchise him, the rules of the new CBA will push his salary up to around $26mil/year. Not sure what he would be worth on the open market, but $26mil is a helluva huge chunk of any team's salary cap.

It's been reported that the Lions GM Mayhew has already offered contracts to Cliff Avril, Jeff Backus and an extension to Calvin Johnson

Look for Burleson & Kyle Vanden Bosch to re-negotiate their respective contracts again or they more than like will hit the road for younger players already on the rooster (WR: Titus Young & DE: Nick Fairley)

Since becoming GM, Mayhew has proven to draft, negotiate/sign and trade for the right players; watch as he continues to build the Detroit Lions roster into a Championship contending Team

2012 Will Be a Great Year for the Motor City Detroit Lions & it would be Most Awesome for Old Man Ford to go out a Winner before he checks out !!

Fairley is a tackle. There is talk that Willie Young will get play time should they cut VDB loose. VDB is a little long in the tooth and damaged goods with the neck issues, although he had an OK season. He can take his frikkin' red contacts and flush them, IMO. Stupid stuff.

He might as well go with white and attract all the Twilight fans while he's at it.

To be clear, I am a big fan of him as an all-around great addition to the team. He has a reputation for being a great leader, the type to motivate the players in the gym and the film room. I don't know how much that is worth in contract dollars, but it must be worth something. I just worry that the team needs to focus on the youthful core they have begun assembling. This could become one helluva team for, hopefully, an extended run.

Hmmmm, it already is. One good RB that they can keep healthy for 1000 yards or more and they would be very tough.

Why would Calvin want to go anywhere else at this point? He will get a fair offer, and as you rightly say, the upside is tremendous with that team.

Avril gets the franchise tag = $10.6 million for the 2012 season.

Lions have until March 13th to fit this number under the salary cap - At 25 he's a Great young player who should have a Bright Future on the D line, they just need to sign him to a long term deal...

Didn't they restructure some contracts to get under the cap to make room for Johnson?
