If anyoen can recommend a good emergency map for the tank bag as well, that would be great.

They are useful but not as a primary tool.

I would carry Trails Illustrated 792 and 791 if you want a good back up map.

As a AMA member for 17 years who lives in VA AND a GS owner, I am very bummed that I found out about this so late. Can someone send me the route that I have read so many good things about so that I can ride it with my friends at a later date!?

I was in Harrisonburg Today,
The weather looks to be awsome for this event.
Nice crisp fall day with very little chance of rain for either sat or sunday
cool at night 40's and upper 60's during the day

and no dust!!

Sorry you missed this year's Shenandoah 500, Eddy Alvarez! Another time, perhaps. The event has been listed in the AMA magazine, American Motorcyclist, for some issues (look under, "AMA Dual-Sport/Adventure Series;" on p. 46 of the September, 2011, issue)..

Routing information isn't commonly available, since private property with unique event easement is involved.

just found out its over 100 miles of pavement the rest dirt roads. the AA sections a good rider could do on an adventure bike with dual sport tires. my crf450r is gonna die
