moab in winter

testing ideas for a trip this winter. time is limited and winter is the only time i can get a couple/few weeks off of work.

would be jan/feb and i would be trailing out my bike from ny. from what i gather itll be in the 40s and 50s in the moab area with a little bit of snow on everything. like i said this trip is just a rough sketch so far.

so have anyone of you reading this ridden moab in the winter months? experience? id love to go during warmer weather but like i said earlier, just wont happen.

Moab in the winter

We have spent the last 15 years in Moab during the New Year holiday Jeeping. More often than not it never gets out of the teens on the valley floor during the day and sub zero at night.
Temperature inversions in the valley cause this - the cold is trapped and can't get out. Once the inversion is mixed by an approaching storm it warms a bit. The temps are usually warmer on the ridges at higher elevations.
January and early February are the worst for these conditions - but you never know - you could be in the 50's too!

Watch the weather and give it a shot!

I was there last Dec. We hade several clear days with lows in the 30's and high in the low 50's. Then we woke up to 3 inches of snow. It is a gamble in the winter.

hmm i see. there is always socal and NM to kill a week or so. research on the net only helps so much. feedback from people that live there or have visited in the winter is so much better. what can i expect for snow on the ground in the canyonland/arches areas.

Snow is usually spotty and on the north slopes. All these areas are beautiful in snow and there's hardly ever more than a few inches or so.
Some winters the snow doesn't stay on the ground until January - just depends.

Moab is on the way to socal and not far from NM - just play it by ear.
