Nason Ridge 8-20-11

H squared, Gums and me decided to go east for a ride. Hwy 2 had some traffic troubles due to a fire so our 1st pick of Devils Gulch was changed to the closer Nason Ridge which was this side of the detour.
Gums actually was few minutes early for our 5:00 AM meetup at me casa. H squared, being the ardent adventurer left yesterday on his DRZ and was going to camp somewhere and meet us at the trailhead.
This trail is really close to civilization and the State Park at Lake Wenatchee. There is a usually a few hikers and horseback riders from the stable in the park (OK, just the riders, not the hikers). We are ahead of all of them except there's just one truck and he looks like a biker. He's comes in as we're ready to depart and reports the trail conditions as dusty (he was by himself).
Pics to come.

We ride by the biggest Ponderosa Pine (dendrologists please correct me if I'm wrong) I've ever seen.

The trail is nice but has some powder in the sunny spots. No whoops anywhere as this is a no loop out and back trail. BEAUTIFUL scenery as the ridge is between Hwy 2 and Lake Wenatchee.
Someone please insert lake picture here as I didn't get any.
Hyw 2 is in the background way down there. Trail climbs to over 6000 ft according to H2's GPS.

This trail is a lot of fun and not much effort for a while. Then it's time to put on the big boy climbing pants as the trail gets some steep and rocky parts.

After coming down this hill to the end I was wondering who I was going to get to ride my bike out of there. And here's H2 on his DRZ with Kenda 270's and camping gear.

Great views (and echos) from here. It's a short hike to the lookout station but we weren't going for it in the heat and the riding boots. Ok, we weren't going for it because we couldn't ride to it.
We all made it out, even me with little to no difficulties, but I would't bring Junior on his 80 this far. The first part would be perfect, however.
Some of the views from the end of the trail. This is looking Northwest.

The Three Brochachos.

H2 coming down one of the loose rocky sections. He made everything look easy.

The altitude affects everyone differently. Here H2 is feeding his sock to Baby Bird Gums.

One other exposed rocky place.

Thanks for the ride and laughs, boys. It was great.
The burger at the Dead BMW Diner was great, too. I had a coconut shake for Masterchief as his eye injury is keeping him from joining us. I missed him and his Yamaha today. It would have been great to see it slogging up those climbs. Soon, buddy, soon.

Well if there was anyone I'd rather ride with in the world, it's my two bros kwisn and guns.

How can you not have fun with two guys hugging ponderosa pines.

Guns blazing some alpine trail.

Beautiful scenery every where you looked.

Keith doing a terrific job of navagating technical single track.

Don't get too close Gun's.

Getting ready to ride, Harry is thinking about the Denny's breakfast he missed out on.

Crikey mate, we've caught sight of the DRZ outside of it's normal habitat of Starbucks and freeways.
