VERY Nice! Could you tell me more about the mods you've done? Front end, wheels, Sano.

Thanks.

I'm sooooo cheap

I just bought a 2007 XR650L and I needed something quick and cheap to put my stuff in for my daily commute to work. So I went to Target and bought a $20 Iglue cooler. Took out the interier plastic, cut off the strap and screwed it down with the tool bag bracket.

Brilliant! And "cost efficient" (read: cheap), too.

Talking Frame gusset XR650L

I'v had this bike about a month.
Still making mods.
After surfing the net, many have had rear sub frame cracks and breaks.
Mine was still OK.
I wanted to cure the problem before it happened.
I removes all the stuff fron the rear portion and made some gussets to try and prevent any problems.
I have pictures here http://www.pbase.com/corky1/2004_hon...650_l&page=all
I also have templates used to make gussets.
I am going to use Ditr bagzs.
Good luck,

Corky

Eventually I would like to get a set of these if I can find someone in the US who sells them.

This page takes FOREVER to load since they are using really old Java technology.

Hey Corky,
2 questions
1) Where did you get the Clarke 5.7gal Fuel Tank? I've google for it and all I seem to find it the 4.7gal tank.
2) What is that little rope or small bungie thing between the fork and the underside of the gas tank?

Nice pics BTW

Mr rockit,
You have a good eye.
5.7 is a typo should be 4.7.
The other is a small bungee holding the plug wire out of the way while changing plug.
Thanks for looking.

Nice work! Did you do the welding yourself?

I sat on an XR650L at the San Mateo bike show yesterday and loved it. I rejected the DR650 in less than a second... I had a very adverse reaction to it. Not as plush as the 690 Enduro but the XRL had a very rugged feel to it. I can get the balls of my feet on the ground which I'm hoping is enough for taking it off road.

Ready for my trip to Gaspe this year.

Rack was on the bike when I bought it - home-made as best I can tell and the rucks were 10 bucks each from eBay.

SenorPeligro,
I stripped the bike and took it to a friend who is an excellent welder.
I showed him the pictures I had taken fron the internet of broken and cracked XRR's and XRL's rear frames and sub frames.
He is a engineer, frame builder and motorcycle rider.
He made the templates and did thee welding.
I have the templates if anyone wants them.
Thanks for looking.

I hope to be picking up my frame tomorrow and will post pictures as well as start a new thread about the build.... I am hoping it will turn out as cool as the last several bikes I threw together!!!

I had new gussets welded on the subframe as well as a paint strip and powder coat on the frame... New motor, new wheels, plastic, graphics and a few other goodies... Should be fun!!! I am awaiting the break-in and initial wheelie session!!!
