The new Fujifilm X10 Camera Looks Sweet

Fujifilm just announced a sweet new camera, the X10. 1080P HD video, 28-112mm f/2.0 -2.8 lens, 12 megapixel resolution w/ RAW support, big sensor, manual control, on-board flash w/ hot shoe for external flash and a crazy 7 frames per second at full 12 MP resolution frame rate. And, it's all packed into a small form factor. Not as small as my S95 but damn close.

This could be the perfect camera for ADV motorcycle trips.

Looks like a good camera with that EXR sensor

If I was just able to bring a pocket camera for any situation this sounds like it could shape up to be a good one, plus Fuji has some of the best image processing I've dealt with (color wise) on the market.

But the LCD is on the low side (less than Olympus and about half as much as Nikon).

I like the old school look to it. Looks more compact then the Canon G12 as well.

Damn! That's about $200 more than I thought it'd go for. Where'd you see it listed at $699?

Re: the LCD screen > Yeah, it is a bit small and lo-res. I'd prefer at least a 3" screen & 900,000 pixels but I guess it isn't quite as critical with a viewfinder (which only covers about 85%, so you'll still need to check the screen for errant branches and shit).

For about $300 less, you can get the Sony HX100V/B
16mp and a 30X zoom with 1080P at 60 fps.
I LOVE mine

The Sony isn't in the same class. The biggest difference for a photog is no RAW.

The Fuji had some good specs over a Canon G12.

Totally different beasts.

Yours focuses on flexibility and is basically the do anything camera with that 30X zoom. But for that huge range you pay a cost in image quality/speed of the lens. It is also about the same size as a DSLR, overall it is more in line with the Fuji HS20 EXR.

The Fuji X10 is a much more focused camera with a smaller zoom range which is more limiting but the trade off is this allows for it to be sharper/faster. The sensor is also very different first being larger (it is even a little bit bigger than the G12's), and more importantly the EXR technology which takes it down to 6 MP for low light or high dynamic range modes.

The issue is this Fuji is not a small camera and you are getting into the m4/3 and NEX price range. It might work great but I think Fuji is trying to position themselves as a niche player with these retro cameras and selling that style for a premium.

The X10 certainly isn't a "pocket" camera but with RAW capability and supposedly razor sharp optics, it could very well be a stand-in for my 5D2 on shoots when I've got to go light. I've sold stock images and fine art prints made from my Canon S95, and I've no doubt the Fuji will produce equal if not better image files. And, despite the larger size, it will still fit in one of my moto jacket pockets for quick access. For moto-photo trips, it could just be the ticket.

Late to the X10 game. An F/2-2.8 aperture landing on a 2/3" sensor. And it has the direct analog controls optical viewfinder that has been the hallmark of the G-series cameras...It looks like Fuji cranked out the spec that the G-series really should have been aspiring to all this time. I really enjoy my xz-1. But I do miss my g7 controls.

I not sure my wife's long faithful S80 can survive another bout of concrete poisoning, but I've been saying that for years. If it dies this year she gets my G10 and maybe this fuji could fill the void. This thing really has derailed my decision a bit to go into the G12. Is 699 the msrp or expected street price?

At almost seven beans I'd stretch a bit further and go into an Oly EP and make use of my old OM lenses.

My X100 is rapidly becoming my favorite box.
I would imagine that the X 10 will deliver at an equally high standard.

Fuji knows skin tones....that image (not shockingly) reminds me a lot of the output from my S5. They need to make a new F-mount camera
