A Thank You Note to Modesto BMW
I had just crossed the bridge at the bottom of the canyon on Ward's Ferry Road when my clutch cable broke Saturday afternoon.
I got to Coulterville just after 4 p.m. and put in a call to Cycle Specialties BMW of Modesto. Yes, they had one, and they were open till 6 p.m., so I headed west on Hwy 132. By the time I got there it was about 5:40 and they were starting to push the bikes inside.
I had planned to buy the cable and put it on myself in the parking lot, but when they offered to do it, I figured why not? It was closing time when I rolled the bike into the service bay, but they seemed happy to stay late and help me on a Saturday evening.
I was very glad I took them up on the offer to install the cable. As it turned out, the little round keeper thingie that secures the top end of the cable in the clutch lever had fallen out when the cable broke. Without it, I wouldn't have been able to install the cable at all.
As fate would have it, they didn't have one of the little keeper thingies new in stock, but they quickly scavenged one off one of their used bikes, put my cable on and had me back on the road a little before 7 p.m. Thanks to them, I was checked into my motel and eating a nice dinner in Mariposa only a little later than originally planned.
Thanks guys, you're good people!
It's only a scratch.
