Not so much because he's a friend, more because it's a good car racing song if you listen to the lyrics.

Tastroman, this thread often reminds me of my favorite motorcycle rides, the ones where we just click into gear, roll on a little throttle and simply follow the front wheel wherever it leads, come heck and occasionally high water.

The destination is not the journey; the journey is the destination. Yes, you can quote me on that.

Visiting Martinsville Speeday for a few minutes on a hot, sultry, nothin'-goin'-on weekend afternoon, posting-up a few pix just to say I was there, and having that simple snippet from a small adventure somehow lead me (and the other four people who follow this thread) to Doug and Telisha Williams is a connect that I could've never imagined sweltering in the Martinsville heat last Saturday, not to be found on any map or GPS, and yet.........here we are. The journey. It's always the journey.

I'm up early this morning, as is the norm for me 'n D here at the RidgeDome. There's no w*rk for me just yet, however, so I'm at liberty to cruise the 'net for a bit, studying up on your (and my new) friends. It's been a fun ride so far. Here's what Doug and Telisha had to say about "Massey's Run" when they posted it up to YouTube earlier this year:

"This weekend, in Martinsville, VA, our hometown, there's this thing called the Goody's Fast Relief 500. You may have heard about it. If you live within 20 miles of Martinsville, you've probably actually HEARD it. In the year 1960, Richard Petty was in that race (then called the Virginia 500). He had only won a single race in his career so far. Never won yet in Martinsville. This is a song about that day. It's a true story (as far as I know) about a guy who saw it happen. His name was Jimmy Massey. We recorded it a few minutes ago with an iPhone in our living room. God bless technology, right? We'll definitely do a proper recording on the next album. Anyway- In the spirit of high octane fuel and vaporized rubber, here's Massey's Run."

Nice. :-)

Sunday Scrubbin' with Alex & Heather

Nothing epic, just a breakfast rendezvous with me 'n D and Alex 'n Heather at the Mountain House
in Meadows of Dan, then making up a short Blue Ridge ride on the fly.

We survived Belcher Mountain Road - downhill, two-up, and a first for everyone but me -
and by and by ended up at Chateau Morrisette for some live music and high-dollar grape juice.

Here's to good friends; today was kinda special. :-)

The Wormy Chestnut (and the small house next door) is for sale,
one of only a handful of commercial properties that actually fronts the Blue Ridge Parkway.
This place has "biker hangout" written all over it, doncha think?

Patina? Yes, and then some.

Comes with this cool old barn (in surprisingly good shape) at no extra charge.
I'm seeing a covered bandstand (built with recycled barn wood, natch) attached to this side (facing the year-'round stream),
and inside would be a rustic bar, honkin' BBQ with all the fixin's, and pinstripers and leathersmiths on the weekends.

I wonder what they want for it? I'd probably have to win the lotto to afford it.

I'm loving the photos Jerry. You're really good with a camera.

It's about 4 hours away from you and requires a 2 mile hike with multiple water crossings but it's a place you just have to photograph.

Below is the best I could do.

If you have any interest I'll shoot you the directions on how to get there. This is just one of 4 swimming holes along the trail. We spent a day there and never saw another person.
Don't know about anybody else but I'd like some directions to this place for those sweltering days of the south. The hike would be worth it just to plunge right into that ice cold water. You know it's cold !!!
