I didn't really get my fix with the rather limited photo ops of the mill, and the late-afternoon lighting was so good I hated to abandon it just yet.

I walked across the highway and set off on foot up an old two-track that followed the river upstream a ways.
It was back here, in a quiet little universe that likely sees few human visitors, that I got some of my favorite photographs from today's ride.

The following may bore some/most/but hopefully not all of you to tears. It's nothing more or less than nine minutes of Norfolk Southern sights and sounds, filmed by someone who's obviously got it as bad as me and my new best friend Jamie.

What makes this video extra-special, IMO, is that it was filmed in and around Salisbury, North Carolina (home of the Spencer Shops), it was shot in high-definition (click on 720 or 1080 if your connection will allow), and.......Norfolk Southern 2620 makes a brief cameo at the 1:42 mark.

Crank up the volume, pretend yer a wide-eyed little kid again, and enjoy.

Our development is close to NS tracks here in central Delaware but most of the consists are much smaller than those shown.

Funny thing is, I always have a twinge of disappointment when the locomotive comes into view and it's not a steam engine. You'd think I'd know better by now! Definitely getting old...

Have been fortunate enough to visit Cass.

Actually, I'm not sure if I'd be more thrilled if I saw a steamer or an EMD F3 - perhaps the latter is SLIGHTLY more likely.

As I'm scrounging my way along the tracks looking for steel patina, a car pulls up near the RK and a young man gets out. No biggie, except he seemed to be paying a lot of interest in me. Thats really cool you got to meet Jamie...Does he by chance allow scheduled visits to his scale train setup? If so PM me his info. I use to be into HO scale trains as well. I still have a few of the locomotives somewhere in storage.
