New and improved KTM690 WUNDERFEST

Dear KTMers :)

I been thinking about getting myself 690 as my trusty old machine started to get too expensive and bothersome after overall of 130 000 km of hard life. I just can't pull myself to do another rebuild after I messed up freshly rebuilt motor because of my own error.

I was hoping for some pointers...perhaps it was discussed before, but I wanted to get opinion from you after so many years/miles of your life with 690.

How realistic is to use 690 SM or other 690s as long distance tourer? Top speed is no problem, but it must do good under 140 kmph, do at least 200 km between fillups etc?
How bad is seat? Did anyone tried new "ergonomic" seat in 400-500 miles per day ride?
How realistic is 2-up if me and wife both quite small?
Is there aftermarket crashbars for SM or only for Enduro/SMC and if so - how good they are?

Would you trust your 690 to take off for 6000 km tour let say from one side of Europe to let say other side of Norway?

I particularly interested in 690 SM to be honest, but may be I am wrong and SMC/Enduro is better choice.

Well according to the fiche I look at the stator and pulse coil are the same.
The Ign coil and flywheel have different numbers

As far as I have understand during these years here in ADVRider, US spec'd bikes appear to have much more trouble than the euro ones, perhaps due to all that dreaded emissions crap or a greatest ethanol percentage in the fuel.
Albie's bike could have behaved better outside the US...

A note on the Suzi fuelpump... It has got poor suction, so the pump has to be placed VERY low in order to work allright, or get feeded by a vaccum pump. Haven´t got in to it really, got another issue to deal with first...
Think it´s a clogged injector. Getting new parts tomorrow.

Most of these in tank pumps have very poor suction hence their mounting in the bottom of the tank...and the challenge of locating a pump elsewhere on the bike that is low enough.

Have you back-flushed the injector? I keep a clean spare in the kit and swap them out every now and then. I'm always pulling the airbox off for some reason or another and do the swap then flush out the old injector and put it back in the kit.

In answer to the questions, under 140, you should have no problem with 200km between fuel stops.
Seat is not great, but I've put 500km days on it. There are better fixes than the ergo seat (e.g. rayz.nl)
2 up - no problem as long as its just a blast around town.
No idea on SM
No problem heading off on a long tour. Been there, done that and heading off again t the beginning of July.

If you are looking at the SM, then maybe asking on www.supermotojunkie.com might be a better option.

I use a 9v battery and carb cleaner.
Be really careful with the o-rings reinstalling the injector, they tear easily. I ordered a few with the new injector just for that reason.

It looks like it is viable option after all ( I mean SMC-R or Enduro - they virtually same just different wheels).
