Since my plans last week didnt exactly go as planned, I decided to reward myself with some much wanted seat time on my new to me 690. I had 2 beautiful days to utilize my time aboard my bike - both days had my wife along as well. I really wanted to put some miles on the bike, as it only had 417 when I climbed in the saddle as of Saturday. Anyways, first day was just shy of 140 miles and had plenty of stops to relieve the tension that was building when riding. I could tell the seat was a brick - but with the frequent stops, it went slightly unnoticed. The second day was over 300 miles and after the first 50 my ass was feelin it. I thought it was the lack of movement with having a passenger on board - but as the mile piled on, it just got more miserable. Out comes the sweatshirt, neatly folded on the seat, which only sufficed for about 30-40 miles - the pain returned twofold. I had read of a $20 fix by buying a padded ATV seat cover from Wally World - this was a very welcome addition (and was the last one available) - but again only remedied the problem for a very short stint. Even tried the sweatshirt under the seat cover - but this was just too wonky and put me about 3 inches higher than a stock seat. Made touching the ground almost impossible and add a passenger to add to the chaos.

I am now in need a better seat. Would love a Renazco - but it is out of my limits at the moment and I dont really feel like waitng (I know that they are the bomb and totally worth waiting for) My second choice and the one I truly need to go with is possible a decent gel seat. So if anyone wan recommend one for me, it will be greatly appreciated. Hopefully someone can relay their review so I dont have too much guess work involved when making my decision. My other question is, do all the aftermarket seats come complete or do I have to add the foam and cover to my existing seat ?? Id rather just purchase a different seat and keep the stocker for days when I ride by myself and Im playin on the trails.

The only thing that kept me going was reading Noah's RTW excursion and thinkin that he probably had worse days than mine
Guts Racing or Seat Concepts have replacement foam & covers that are cheap and easy to install. If you don't have a good staple gun, you can usually get a local upholstery shop to put the new cover on for about $20.00

Thanks for the heads up

I can and have replaced many a seat cover + foam - even reshaped a few seats for my needs. But I am truly looking for the entire replacement seat. Keep that stocker in tact - somewhat for resale - but I know I will use it when riding solo. I like the narrowness and the height of the stocker - just the comfort suxs. I did a 150 mile day by myself and it was all right - but Id like a different one to swap over for my long distance seat days

I'm with you on this these days. 16,000km on the stock seat and have gotten used to it. Was not a lot of fun in the beginning. Heard a few weeks in San Quentin helps with the break in

HARDEN UP,nothing wrong with the standard seat, get out and ride the the bloody bike and your arse will get used to it ,instead of throwing money at trying to find a seat that suits your backside

you guys must be a bunch of cheap hardcore youngsters

Like I said B4 - I dont mind the stock seat for riding SOLO, but would like a soft cushy old mannish seat (Im 42 now) for long distance days with my copilot.

I was wedged between my tank bag and my wifes skinny ass - so's I didnt have much room to move around to switch from cheek to cheek

Id like to see most of you try a 300 mile day with passenger !!! Do that and then we will talk

Apply the activator in the plastic hole and then apply glue on the insert. Warning: You won't get two chances. Push the insert in the hole rapidly.

I have used channel locks to press the insert into the hole and practiced before applying any glue.

Tractionator Desert size?

I need tires for my 690R...Since 70-80% of the time I drive it on gravel, forest road & dirty forest sand, I'm leaning toward the Tractionator Dessert H/T.

I know different brands vary some in size & weight etc... What size do I need to order? I need both front & rear I definitively don't want any taller! it's too far to the ground already

Gonna need one for my 450 exc too...(99% off road) I think it presently has a 140/80-18 Pirelli, I'll check when I get home..

The size ratio is throwing me...

Did 500 miles of dirt road and trail on the stock seat in one day. There was some skin loss and some scarring. I now have a Renazco

140 is the width in mm. 80 is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width. So a 140/80 has a 112mm tall sidewall.

I have a seat concepts cover and foam , its a little wider than stock is great for around town and short trips.
For the longer rides I throw on the airhawk , you can still ride standing up with both and no pain on 400km days.
You don't notice the width of the seat with a little time

Seat concepts is the way to go for fast and affordable. I have ridden the renazzco and it is great but the price put me off.... I also rode the stodker for the first 6000 miles. I also have a husaberg with the rough saw 2x6 so my ass is used to discomfort. at 42 quit yer sniveling ya sissy im 58 and didnt think the stock was bad but tore the cover and went for the Seat Concepts

Just did 1500 miles over the last 5 days. I spent a LOT of time standing up...

I never changed my WR seat out and it still does just fine, but the KTM 4x4 sucks big time.

That seat is a goner as soon as possible. Looking at a seat concepts at the moment. If that turns into fail I will look at the Renazco...

My WR seat is good too, but I have a sheepskin buttpad for it. I did about 500 miles on Sunday between getting to the DS ride and getting home. I was shocked at how much pain I am still suffering! I ordered a new buttpad and hope it works for the 690 stock seat. If not, I think the stock seat is too soft. It gets right up between my cheeks and makes abrasion (sorry for the graphic).

I want something like my WRR seat. If the buttpad doesn't work, I'll get the foam out of a WRR and use it.
