Very cool... I've never seen any other enduros out here! Where were at? I was just in Pontianak trying to cut thru to Kuching and I've spend quite a bit of time in Sabah.
For true jungle riding I've wondered if a 2 wheel drive, KTM freeride with recluse, winch, and spikes in the tire wouldn't be the ticket. I've actually fantasized about having a low front fender contraption like the cow movers on trains that would have razor sharp edges on them and cut vegetation as it went.

Ricky, I was based out in Brunei for 4 years and loved the riding opportunities we had. 3 of us bought the 690 Rs in 2010 with the goal of circumnavigating the whole island, but had to scale back the trip due to lack of time. We did Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei, but had to skip Kalimantan. We used logging roads, mouse trails or whatever got us to where we wanted to go. Probably one of the best places I have had the pleasure to ride, whether it was a slippery clay road, or the friendly people we met wherever we went. After all, where else in the world do you get to enjoy the pristine rain forests and even have the opportunity to ride through and enjoy places like the Maliau Basin or ride along the trails on Mount Kinabalu. My only regret was not riding more when I was there.

For anyone with those g-it case covers did you just use high temp rtv gasket silicone. I have some permatex copper rtv but kinda afraid to glob that crap all over my clutch cover.

I used Permatex Ultra Black on my carbon covers. Heat and fluid resistant. Works well.

Yes, I used a black high temp permatex rtv liberally applied to both faces. Then pushed/twisted them on to ensure good contact and then used masking tape to ensure the didn't move/slide/slip until the silicone cured. That was two years ago.......

Mr. Barman,

Maybe you stated this before but, I missed it.........

First, you sell/trade a well Farkled 690 for a 950 SE.

Now, you have gone and sold the SE too and are bikeless.

Whats going on inside that cranium of yours?

It's not about what's going on in my cranium, it's the busted carcass that's giving me issue. Guess I'm wise enough at my age to start listening to what's rattling around in my head.

That said, there is this sweet DRZ400 I've sorta been looking at.....

There are a lot of things that dealers should know, but don't. It's not a good idea to disable the clutch switch on 690 and 990 bikes. Beyond safety, there is logic in the Kehin FI which cuts all fuel to the injectors if the motor is above a certain RPM, in gear, clutch not pulled and the throttle is closed rather than use the idle map. This is done for emissions and fuel economy. Of course, if the ECU cannot determine cllutch state, the bike will die. This does not happen when the bike is cold since the FI operates in non loop-back mode (fixed mapping) and the above logic is bypassed until the motor is up to normal operating temp.
