Trust me, on the Dempster highway, it was one long ass dirt track and we blasted up it 100 MPH, all the way to the Arctic circle! It made all the pavement droning well worth it

No offence taken. I am short. I lowered my 690. But the SE eats to much fuel and it doesn't get you much in return (in my opinion). Lets put it this way... if there was a KTM LC4 450 I would probably be on it. Sip sip sip on the fuel. Travel light with the necessities... and the flyrod.

Yes. When it rained 5 days on me on the Campbell highway and I was forging through 8" of sloppy mud in some places, I was glad I was on a 690. The Dalton Highway I was on the pegs at about 80 mph the whole way.. by myself with no worries about the bike.

I agree with your logic Bob and ponder it often as I hear people say bike X is a 80/20 steet dirt bike.

If you've got a mix of boring slab, back country roads, MX type track, washboards, interstate and the jungle riding I do wich seriously makes me think of attaching circular saw blades to the axles that 20% "dirt" should do 95% of the dominating what bike you chose.
Even the long way round series hi-lighted that. When Ewan and Charlie were off in Siberia they had tons of days they only did 2, 15, 10 km in 12 hours of riding. Most of it looked like stuff that would be easy to put 300KM a day on if you were on a 690 or lighter. Despite the 690 being less comfortable on the slab than a GS1200 it certainly wouldn't take long in the dirt (far less than 20% dirt) to make up the distance you lost on the autobahn portion...

I've seen you on the SE and I thought it looked like you had a 45 deg bend at the knee!

Be sure to replace that carbon fiber muffler hanger or replace it right away with a steel one...they like to snap. That a 450RR?
