You sig confirms my thought that it's an 08 based on the pic alone. There was a bad run for bearings for the rockers that a lot of the 08 bikes got. Mostly it manifest as score marks, parallel to the rotation axis of the bearing. I don't see any there, but sure doesn't look right. Does the bearing turn freely?

Bearing turns freely... and theres no sign of heating. Also, the cam doesn't seem to have abnormal wear.

Which is a mercy... I'd be putting a new rocker on my parts list for ASAP replace. In the mean time, if it runs free and (as noted) the cam looks good then you might finish up the trip on it. Rockers are sub $60 (us) so no bad on the budget to replace and very easy as well.

Just keep an ear out for (extra) odd noises

Edit: What everyone else said! :)

Is your TPS adjusted properly? All your tuning is in vain if those two sensors are out of whack. I was down a similar road with my 690 recently..

I've done all the tuning with TuneECU, tried different maps

The bike still stalls when off the throttle.

Can anyone recommend a tuner in the Tucson area who can help me
get this bike running right again ?

Max

Do you know the condition of your fuel filter? Mine was past done at 4K miles.

Have you cleaned the injector? Related to the fuel filters griming up early, the fuel injectors get an extra early does of nasty.

And just saying you've used TuneECU doesn't really give sufficient insight. It can be a tool for good or evil...

*Edit - looks like my questions were already addressed....

Does the injector need to be cleaned in a ultra sound cleaner ?

Anyone have the part # for a new injector ?

Max
I'm heading down to Mexico sometime this next year on my 690R.
I have an extra fuel pump already and will purchase an extra injector for that JIC scenario.
The new part # is 75041023144. Cheap @ only $150 bucks for peace of mind.

Noah,
That's good service and luck.....it would take me three weeks to get parts

Also following your RR and digging it.....latest intel suggests Croatia in the summer is the ticket

Have fun riding the slopes....

Might want to replace that roller

Take this FWIW - especially as it is based on one picture. To me it looks like the surface of the roller is starting to fail and part of it is starting to flake off. Failure mode is often described as "brinneling" and basically the surface of the roller has a bunch of micro fractures and the metal starts spalling off as the fractures connect. Also looks like there is a matching track on the cam below it. Generally caused by excessive loading of the surface of the material.
Would recommend replacing the roller. Also check the other rollers as well for similar surface cracking indications.
Just out of curiousity - what weight oil are you running?

I have 1700 km to Tbilisi Georgia then I won't be riding for 4 months to rebuild the suspension and whatever else is needed. It seems like my only option would be to get to Georgia then order parts if this should be replaced. Your thoughts?

I think I have just come up with a design for an external fuel pump /duel pump/ manifold for multiple tanks its so simple .

Now I just have to get it out of my head and on to paper

I was able to replace both rocker arms last night. I have a theory about the increased loading.. I don't think the "automatic decompression" is laying completely flat when the motor is at speed.

The cam behind it was ok but there was some scaring on the decomp.

I am running 10W 60 Motul right now. Its been either that or Motorex 10W 60
