$3 worth of parts in a bazaar in Almaty Kazakh. You have to cut the hoses some.
Nice on the road fix.

I wonder what to look for.

Just wait for the symptoms to appear?
Pull the rocker arm out and check the bearing for play.

I need an exhaust rocker arm!

So there is a nation wide back order on the updated exhaust rocker arm. I cant wait until july 31st. Really hoping someone has one of the old versions sitting around as a spare. I could replace it with the upgraded unit once available. Or pay tons of cold hard cash for it.

Long shot i know

Out of curiosity - are there any bikes in this weight class that would suit people of my size?

At 6'6", I can't imagine there is any bike that will "fit" you.

I'm 6'4", I have a taller seat, lowered pegs, and raised bars. I love my 690!

Riding compartments of modern motorcycles are not made for people our size. I don't suspect that the 690 is much better, or any worse in that regard.

Now you got me thinking I should order one just to have it around for future needs.
I wonder if the upgrade is worth putting in as preventive (at next valve check) and have the original around for a spare.

Thinking the same thing. I ordered both rockers awhile back and have the same back order problem, but my bike is running fine.

Not that long a shot! I had one go on me last fall unexpectedly. I too was told there would be an ungodly wait time of 2mos. The fine folks at Rally Raid helped me out by sourcing the part in England and shipping it with another order I was placing. Within two weeks KTM Canada managed to come up with the part for me so I have a new spare. Check the p/n below.

Since you too are in Canada it should be easy to get it to you quick. PM me and we will work it out. Karma, bros!

When you have the valve cover off, press on the pin that holds the holds the bearing. If it moves you're in the danger zone. My exhaust one worked its way out of the arm enough to bind on the intake arm. I was able to press pin on hte the intake side out with my finger as well so I replaced both.

Thanks for the help.
I think I might have a failing muffler bearing.

Are there any specific model years that have the failures?

Cheers,

MrHix

Nope, they're all only splash lubricated. Given how difficult it is to get oil under the roller I'm surprised they last at all.

Here's the order information if yours fails.
They are universal.

Muffler Bearing

You can thank me later.
