So we indeed have hit a road block on my motorcycle. But we have had a few laughs along the way.

As we were preparing for the ride into Mexico, Sam made a copy of his documents including his Driver license for the visually impaired.

Dang, thats a minor blip in a BMW's life though, new engine is much like fouling a plug on other bikes. Pop one out,pop another in. I ship stuff around the world constantly for my business, some countries can hold items in customs for 4 to 6 weeks for no good reason,I would think BMW can get this done though.
Nice to have no schedule, must be some neat stuff to make 1 or 2 day trips out of there.

Hey Idahosam,

I didn't know you were heading South. PM me if you need anything/any info. I had a marvelous trip by myself in 2009.

I don't recall the name ... the place was just being finished up back in '06. I hung out with the owner. Nice young guy. Rates were a deal then ... Now? No idea. Each unit has a kitchen, up and down stairs, hot water, Fridge, fireplace that works!! All new and modern and good beds.

We paid like $20 (220 Pesos) a night back then (3 in a room). At that time downtown Creel was nothing but street construction ... everything torn up, jackhammers all day and much more expensive than this place. We do like the Best Western (main drag) for a good American breakfast however.

EASY to find ... head WEST out of town ... it's on the corner at the Divisadero turn off. Impossible to miss. Right on main road. You can walk to the Tiger Zoo, on the hill, across the road. Use caution.

As someone has brought to our attention... the engine is indeed going to be replaced, but not for awhile, some 10 days out, as it is inbound from Germany and must still clear customs and other assorted post 9/11 stuff Now I know some of you may think I could just take off on my own, and that thought did cross my mind, but This is an adventure we want to and had agreed to share together. I have no real time line No hurries, no worries attitude. We will just delay until 20 October for our launch; after all the weather will be even better.
All good!
The weather should be fantastic! Mid/late Oct. and November; great time of year. The sub tropical coastal areas usually best in November ... coolest time of the year ... and still "shoulder season" so fewer tourists. Enjoy, take your time! Hope the GS800 comes together soon!

Creel can freeze in October (at night) but Batopilas will be perfect at 2200 ft. Why not head South and enroll in a Spanish class while your waiting?

!Suerte!

So when you go, again, will you post it in this thread, or start a new one?

I.E. can I book mark this, or will I have to search it out again??? hehe

No problem, this one will continue as it isn't over, just a short intermission. To be honest, I've not even reached the jump off point yet. As you know my companion is getting a new engine installed. Bike is sitting in Tucson ready to roll, will fly back down 19th October. Stay tuned

AS I've stated before I could have easily rode on down, but it was always our intent to do this together, so as to share the adventure.

I'm in! interested in how that $40 a day will work out. One thing i've learned so far, never buy a BMW! Seems every RR i've read here involving a BMW has included a major breakdown/maintenance issue. never read a VSTROM issue...
