Yea, I'm curious how that $40 a day works out too I do have a small buffer. Regarding the BMW, Radioman has put over 98,000 miles on his 1150 without issue, other than periodic maintenance. I personally he just got the 1 in 10,000 but I am thankful it grenade'd right at the dealership instead of in the frontiers of Mexico. Well stay tuned.

Very happy to be on board virtually! This will have me glued to the computer.

I must admit I am almost fond of Mark's sabotaged 800 though, as this meant we got to catch up in person today. Without doubt the Germans are responsible; glad to hear it's under warranty though and happened when it did/ where it did.
Once the journey does continue however, I wish you two the best of travels and a safe adventure. I will be eagerly awaiting your updates.

There's that video again Oh wait I'm supposed to close my eyes while you guys ride it. I'll take a deep breath and deal with it.

I'm glad you are getting a chance to tick off some of the things on your bucket list.

Well first off I am shooting to get there, sorta depends on my $$ by the time I get to Panama. that thing "known as the mordida, or bite" I need to be a cool hand Luke at that like Crashmaster and Throttlemiester. I'm more worried about going all caucasian on them.

I have bad flashbacks of the 70's My one and only hang up of this trip.

That road really isn't that bad... geez my bike is only 32 inches wide not 8 feet like the truck and buses.

It's not you and your bike that scares me about that road it's those buses. I've seen other films/videos of it with motorcycles on the outside edge. I do have to admit it would be cool to do though.

Well since I have some free time on my hands thought I'd put this tid bit of information out.... Well I have pretty much finished my lose ends and am just twiddling my thumbs and needed to give my thread a kick to let everyone I'm still here.

OK, I bought a K60 from Black Dog awhile back; Hi'a Marge n Kurt

I bought the 140/80/18, stuck it away for the right occasion..... Now I am heading south with Radioman (another story)

AnyHoo I mounted it up on my 990 (Moya) and as a curiosity, I measured the thread depth on three different center lugs and all were right at 11 millimeters

Pretty isn't it.

Well after 1100 miles of pavement slabbing down to the rendezvous point in Tucson in 106+ degrees @ 70 to 80 MPH I measured it again......... coming in at 10mm now. If this holds consent then I should easily get 8 to 9K out of this tire

Only time will tell

Good looking tire. The K60's have a good rep among the Euro, Russia and Africa Adv crowd. I've found the trick to long tire life riding a heavy bike is keeping highway speeds down a bit.

I've found significant wear differences on various rear tires from going 85 mph vs. going 60 or 65 mph. Down South your speeds will naturally slow. I think you'd be lucky to get 7000 miles out of that rear on a fully loaded 990. If you get 9000 miles ... I would be very impressed!

Good luck ... and hope BMW can get the F800 up soon and on the road.

Yea, me too on the BMW issue... Should know real soon. As for the tire making 7000, I would still be thrilled. But I am not what I would consider, heavily loaded. I weighted out everything before departing and weighted in a just shy of 65 pounds dumping all my camping gear dropped a good 20 pounds off the load. Anyway 7K still good in my book, I've never gotten more than 4000 out of a tire (908's)

Hey Sam, I'm originally from Idaho, now live in Panama, away from the hot coast in the cool Highlands. I could sure put you up for a day or so if you manage to stay upright this far!

Any indication what direction you'll be heading?

Looks like I'll be about a week or so behind you two. I'm doing Baja first. Crossing at Algadones first week of Nov.
