Ahm.....

Well - first of all roadster version looks EXACTLY like big Hornet with different motor. Why - God and hopeless market research department of Honda Europe knows.
Second - it's MCN, for God sake! It's people, who promised every dream bike on planet - usually it turned out to be something entirely different.
Don't hold you breath....

Come on!! It is another motorcycle magazine joke
I will believe in a new Africa Twin only the day that I can test ride it and compare it with my former RD04
Well... It ISN"T a joke.

Here's the official Honda press release on the new engine:

http://world.honda.com/news/2011/211...ine/index.html

Guys on the other side of the Atlantic... Just cross your thumbs. Look at the success of both the F800GS and Triumph 800 tripples... Honda would be blind to leave that part of the World out of the order books... But then, they have done it over and over again...

But you guys got / ended up with the PC800...

OK, I am off to garage to continue to paint plastics on my 1992 Suzuki DR800 and to charge battery in my 1997 VTR1000F

God Save the old and trusty honest bikes!

They will need MUCH more than fuel economy to beat their own Hornets 600 and 1000.

there is only mention of 3 new vehicles for this motor. 2 are known, the maxi scooter and the naked bike...but there is NO mention the 3rd will be a ADV bike.

this is just pure speculation (of a new AT) nothing more nothing less.

sure we want to see a bad-ass 700 twin with long suspension using the latest motocross technologies, spoked wheels, large tanks etc..but it's all speculation you are putting forth. don't act like it's anything more, unless you are truly an insider who works for Honda r&d.

honda has not hit any home runs with new bikes in a long time so i don't think anyone is holding their breath.

We all got excited last time Honda did this - so we all trekked off to EICMA and what did we get................a nice tshirt in a glass case, and about the most conceptual load of V4 bollocks ever shown........and we ended up with the 'Cross Dresser'.......I mean...DEAR LORD!!!

And just because it gives me an excuse to post photos - I got tired of waiting for Honda to update the Africa Twin, so I made my own

If you read the Honda PR piece it says "This new engine will be mounted on three models based on different concepts, which are slated for exhibition at EICMA2011(69th International Motorcycle Exhibition) to be held in November in Milan, Italy."

So are we to gather these will be released, or are they just concepts? Nice if an adventure version was released, competition always improves the breed.

The run up to the actual photo release of the 2012 Wee had posters here going crazy for months, the day after it was released, posts dropped to a trickle.

Will it be the same here preceding the Milan show?

Of course, once it's released there is will be a WAY BETTER (tm) imaginary bike to discuss.

The only reason I think it MIGHT be a DS bike is that saleable performance is lower than for a sports bike.
i.e. the DL 650 is around 60 HP and has a top speed < 120mph.

Most 600cc sports bikes now are pushing 100HP and >150mph - really hard to make an efficient engine meet those numbers.

The downside of that, the aerodynamics of most DS bikes are bad because of the upright seating position.

Gotta give you guys a little while to beat it. It makes you all feel better.

Will I be pleasantly surprised if Honda brings any thing really new to the show, yep. Will I be even more surprised if it is actually available in the USA, yep.

but

I'm not exactly holding my breath. Based on their track record over the past 10 years or so I'm shocked that people can still get excited about this. Even more so when then say it's based on a scooter engine....really? A dual-sport scooter?

@ Stormforce... I envy you for your bike... Compliments for the re-build you did! But nothing compares to a real, original RD01 which I own... ;)

@ Ladder... That's the point. Hit it right on the nail. Unless the R&D people are real stupid, they have to bring us something proper, or get out of the Western market and pointing their R&D activities 200% to Asia. People are getting tired from ‘promises’ like they did previous to (f.e.) the introduction of the VFR1200F and customers are turning their back towards Honda.

I still believe there is a reason to have (some) hope... Maybe I am stubborn, maybe just a wishful thinker. Who knows. I love the Honda's I have owned, and love the Honda's I own. But that doesn't blind me to look at other brands and the bikes they build...

amazing how honda could have produced that awhile back and yet look where they are today.

i think ktm used that bike somewhat when they conceptualized the 950 adv...or am i just influenced by your forks and front wheel?
