Well, the 2 cyl. is perfect. I would never go 3 or more.
This engine is a major part of the fun.

Well, I am a fan of twins also, but there have been lots of super neat 3-cylinder motors in motorcycles, starting with the 2 stroke Kawasakis and Suzukis. The K75 BMW was a truly sweet motor. The new Triumphs are excellent as well. I would not rule out a 3-cylinder as quickly as I would a 4 or a 6.

Some Honda engineer is reported to be the originator of that urban legend. Some funny saying that keeps on getting repeated in all the forums and everywhere :)

However, according to others voices there is some distant similarity: bore and stroke. I cannot tell myself, since I have absolutely no clue about cars.

This is not urban legend. It was JOKE by lead designer. He said (smiling) "we cut Jazz motor in two".
It is amazing - interview was published, mentione "he smiled and said" and nobody got it - hence urban legend created by readers and not engineer.

But this motor has nothing to do with motorcycle engine indeed. It is scooter motor. Nothing against maxiscooters, just clarifying. It was first meant for maxiscooter platform and NC derived from it. Cost-wise smart move by Honda indeed.

That is what I was trying to say.

It is a pretty good motorcycle engine (both with and without DCT) and I do not think there was a special dedication for maxi scooter. The Integra 700 BTW is a hybrid, not a typical maxi scooter. Engine and chassis were designed for all three models (Integra, NC700S, NC700X) right from the beginning. The NC afaik is not derived from the Integra. Those are sisters. This is what I read from the media and got told by my dealer. However, I have no internal knowledge at all.
