Grampians Ride

Count me in for a Grampians ride. Last time i was up that way, only half the roads were open so made for a fun time back tracking & watching the fuel tank go down leading back to dunkeld. The road from Zumsteins to Halls Gap has been re-opened, so this time there will be a fuel stop @ the Gap.
First week in December is good for me, as I've got holidays and planning on doing some rides before working over the christmas period. Anyone interseted, PM or throw a challenge on the forum.
Also, greetings Meirmoto.

Cool2

Sounds interesting.

Can I put it out there for a possible ride in the Grampians on Sunday 4/12/11. While I start N/S that night, I will just take off so I have time to get home and make myself respectable for work.

Maybe an early meet up and kick off from McD's in Hamilton?

Thoughts/suggestions/abuse?????

I'm in, nothing like Mc-Chucks for breakfast on an empty stomach. How early, is early for everybody else ? As for johnboyklr, I ride weekdays, weekends & my favorite, Mondays !

Blokes,
a Gramps ride sounds great. I'll be away on a Mt Buller trail bike ride on the 4th but would be keen to keep an an eye out for any other get togethers. A few good tracks are:

Dunkeld-Moyston rd through Yarram Park: long, fast, sandy access road;
Victoria Range Rd: steep climb up and a few water bars then great ridgetop riding;
Sawmill tk, short but fun with a couple of creek crossings;
Copper Mine Track: another fun shorty up near Stapylton;

and another long, flat one from Billywing down to Bullawin rd via Victoria Valley rd (name escapes me).

Anything linking these together would be a blast. Good camping spots at Pines, Jimmy Creek and Borough Huts. Most have been upgraded in the last couple of years. I've also found the Spatial Vision North and South Grampians maps to be excellent.

Thanks Dan, I was hoping you would pipe in (and be available). Enjoy your ride and maybe you can join in for some reccie rides with Jane, etc for the Cancer Ride.

The Vic range rd is a cracker! We went down there the other weekend. There is the Vic range trk that runs south from the top of the mountain. This trk on the maps is meant to be locked as per the maps, but it was open on the day. The reason I mention it is that we give it 9.5/10 for difficulty, with washed out hill declines. Best keep away from it unless your looking at extreme adventure!
Moira and henham Trks were shut last time which makes it harder to join tracks east-west and into halls gap, but plenty of tracks to explore. Keep eyes open for the scars on the side of the mountains from land slides! Spectacular!

Vic Range rd is seasonally closed and I haven't checked it out this side of Winter yet. Surely it couldn't get much worse than after the rains late last year. Serra Rd brings you out about halfway between Halls Gap and Mirranatwa Gap Rd on the main Halls Gap-Dunkeld highway. There's lotza good riding up behind Mirranatwa: Jensen's, Red Hill, Beehive tracks etc. You could also camp at Strachan's (Straaaaaaunie!) right in the middle of this area but it's hot & airless there over summer. The other sites are far better- the Pines is almost Yosemite-like- but they do fill up with 'vanners over the hols.

Been up since 07:00, horses, dogs, cats, cows to be fed & front suspension for ute replaced in town early. But have just got back from a quick spin around the block & a few beers @ Conda. What a day to kick back & wash the bike.
