But why jeopardise safety and sacrifice any grip??

What tyre is it and how many K's has it done??

They are both MT21's. I don't know how many the previous owner put on it but I put 2600km's to get to this point. If it was an MTB I'd be calling it a semi-slick

I figured I'd put another on to see how many K's I get so I can compare it to the others out there objectively.

I'm happy to take any interested folk for a spin through the scrub between Casterton/Dergholm/Penola, but that's best left alone until we've had a few inches of rain. Dirt squirter terrain - heavy grey sand, perfect when damp, but dusty as hell when it's dry.

With regard to planning other rides, I haven't really kept track of everyone's bike type and experience level/preference. It maybe worth a quick post from everyone, to help planning if one of us does get around to planning something. ie;
adventure bike/gravel roads & scrub tracks
road bike/black top only
trail bike/anything but black top

I'll bite:
JugglingOgre (aka Pete) DR650 - I'll ride anywhere though I'm only learning the off road thing. Put it this way, the DR is a lot more capable than I am

Robe for Easter

Oh, and I think someone was considerine Robe for easter; it's busy as hell, and usually features a large mob of people bringing their dirt squirters for an assault on the dunes.

DSE (or whoever manages the parks) have been known to use the opportunity to put a spotter plane up and cops on bikes to educate riders on the need to stay on the tracks, and keep their bikes roadworthy/registered/licenced.

All round, it's just a ridiculously busy time. Better off picking a weekend a bit later and having the joint to yourself, rather than colliding with some mexican cresting a dune on the wrong side of the track.

Plans changed for Robe

[QUOTE=jrr;18258325]Oh, and I think someone was considerine Robe for easter; it's busy as hell, and usually features a large mob of people bringing their dirt squirters for an assault on the dunes.

I was thinking of Robe for my first ride and also for getting the anti cancer council's spanner over there.

After X-rays on Friday confirming that my leg is still just a little broken I will have to delay my come back ride. GagsD2 is taking the spanner to the Flinders Ranges ride, so no need to link with SA riders to get it to Adelaide.

XRman riding a DRZ400 : gravel roads and scrub tracks for me until my leg heals and my neck injury fades with time.

I second the suggestion to leave the deep sand until it rains. I rode a DR650RS model in deep sand once. I have probably been more scared while riding, but I can't remember when. Yes I can; racing a XR600 through pine trees on a whooped out single track. Gimme back my KTM!

Gags and I rode out to that area acouple of weeks ago, after a few days of showers, the tracks where damp & in excellent condition due to DSE going through with graders and cleaning up the tracks, mostly in the Casterton area but Dergholm was also excellent.
