Hoping to get out on the dirt and start exploring in Jan, least I know there are some people I can call on to point me in the right direction (makes me feel a little less apprehensive about the whole move).

Cheers

That Bicent. trail usually is a good ride where it comes onto public road, shame you can't access all of it, are you keen for a little ride Friday morning?? You could hook up somewhere on the way in, only trouble is i have to be at the showgrounds just after lunch .

Rocky & back 3 Rivers Run!! part 1

Ok took the old XR out for a little wander over the last week, .
Due to Beef Australia held in Rocky i had to take some cattle & the cook to rocky for a week, i wasn't gunna sit around there for a week so decided to load the XR , & ride home! & then back again in a weeks time.
This is the story of the trip down & back, CQ has some great roads to offer once you get off the tar, everyone should get out & have a look! .

Heading out from rocky early sunday morning Bloody cold , had to stop out on the ridge lands road to defrost a little!

Some great little creeks on the way, good camping spots!

did the malborough range a couple of times for good luck!

Crossed the Fitzroy by Glenroy station, luckily i knew the owners & phoned a friend as the road had only reopend a week before due to river over the crossing!

Some nice twistie dirt to keep one self awake!!

followed by a Wheredafukrwe moment??

It's all good we are at the back of these mountains??
finally made it back home 450k later saw some country i didnot know existed! Just have to work out which way i'm going back down in a weeks time!

part 2

part 2..
After staring at maps for a week i decided i just could not avoid the boring May downs road , but i could take a different route from there onwards, via the Apis creek road then a little bit of tar & some dirt to westwood then from there to the ridgelands road i could access quite a bit of the Bicentenial national trail which is always good!
You just got to love early morning on a bike!!

The only thing to break the boredom of the may downs road was the Mighty Mackenzie.

They even had a chair waiting..

A little plan had started to take shape , i was riding in the basin of the second largest river system in Australia, bar the Murray!
There was 3 main rivers the Mackenzie , the Dawson & finally the Fitzroy, i got to wondering if it was possible to ride across all 3 of them via dirt roads in the day??
worth a shot!
I had never travelled the Apis Creek road , i had heard good things about the country in there, i had heard wrong it was shit & so was the road , 100k of boring straight crap!
But i did cross the mackenzie again..

i tried to get along a bush track to Gogango , but i was running low on fuel & decided to head on into duaringa for a bite to eat & refuel.
wandered back north east again on the dirt & managed to ride around a road closed sign to attempt river #2!

The Dashing Dawson!would not have liked to been sitting here a month or so ago!!
Onwards to the bicentenial trail!

Only to have another Wheredafukrwe moment.. all good the GPS said public road...
I was on the Bicentenial trail & damn it was good fun , anyone that couldn't drift a bike around gravel corners , would have come out the other end of this road an expert, although a couple of blind corners followed by slippery creek crossing did catch me off guard...
I'd been in the saddle since 7 this morning & it was now getting near 4 in the arvo with only the fitzroy to cross so i rubbed my numb arse & soldiered on! with a smile on my face after another 50 k of twists & turns, that road is an absolute beautie!!there's even a sealed range in there with a handful of 40k corners, bliss!!
Finally the Fiesty Fitzroy!!

Job Done! just wander in to rock vegas via the ridgelands, & i'm there! i'd turned a 5 hour journey in a car down the highway, into an epic 650k adventure on a bike with onlly minimal tar stretches!& seen a bloody lot of good country !! Best bit of road i've ridden for a while & highly recommended is the run from westwood to malborough via the Bi cent trail, it's a ripper!!

Nice work OBB, CQ offers up some good riding just got to go find it, seems like that XR get's more of a gallop than that Euro POS, or is it purley a SM now.

The Austrian Princess gets the easy life, this time... needed 500k fuel range, only the ol trusty could fill that position!.
