Hi Bill!

This is timely. Wife and I need to get away from the cold, either just before or just after Christmas. Sayulita is on the short list. I had not necessarily counted on being able to ride on this trip, but if I could, so much the better. Mostly we were looking for a quiet, warm beach where we might play in the surf etc. Karen was in Sayulita in May. It seems to be about the right size and pace and budget, but Karen's worried there might not be enough for me to do. I don't know how to surf, but understand it's a good place to learn. Any stand-up paddle boarding? What about sea kayaks?
125 Bros rentals would be just fine in my book.

I don't have any experience south of the border, so i've been trying to research some different places. Puerto Viejo Costa Rico was recommended to me as was Todos Santos Mexico. I know you've been to the former as that's how I stumbled upon this thread.

I like non-tourist places. No fabricated resort destinations like Acapulco. I'd go to Florida if I wanted a vacation where everything is just like in the states. And I'd never go to Florida. I want to hang out with the locals, go where the locals go, eat and drink where they do etc. I want to be in another culture.

Hope I have not hijacked this into a vacation planning thread!

stand up paddle boarding is huge here. you can rent sea kayaks.
yes great place to learn to surf. ideal wave for it.
plenty to do around here and there is alot of activity, but it's still a nice small town w/ great restaurants. boat trip to yelapa is a must do as is the malecon (sea wall in vallarta). around christmas the busiest time all year and alot of places are booked solid already, but i might know a something. i like the hotel diamante http://www.hoteldiamantesayulita.com/en/ but the cheap rooms might be gone.

puerto viejo is also way cool. i was there last christmas. laid back carib town.

still working on a rental.

Hmm....thought I subscribed to this thread but no updates.

We would be maybe Jan 9 to 18th so I'd hope to miss the holiday traffic. Does that put us out of the crush? Also discovered that inmate Gunga Galunga's father lives here. GG is in Idaho. Maybe you have met his dad?

Let me know how the rentals are looking. I have been scouring airfare and most of Latin and South America is too long a flight and too $$ for our preferences.

Thanks, Bill!

Thanks bill your the man

Good Morning!
I met Bill, ADVRIDER.COM "Eakins", three days ago who owns Sayulita (Puerto Vallarta) Mexico - guided day trips & vacation services
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=732617
Just to get a beer a talk about my trip he lives here in Sayulita, just moved down. He gave me alot of advice and answered all my questions. Very nice guy, two days later I started having bike trouble and shot him an Email. He came right away and met me in the square, we messed with it there for awhile and then I followed him to his house with a nice clean garage. We left the bike due to the heat and went to the beach, met back up at around 5 and started tearing her down. We pulled the carb and it actually looked great almost brand new. We cleaned her out really well checked everything all the pilots the skirt everything. we notice taking off the Choke cable that connects to the carb was cracked. So we did our best to fix, super glue, electrical tape, and zipties and shes back to new. We pulled the Spark plug and it didn't look that bad, but still changed it anyways I had brought 3 extras with me. We went through the bike making sure nothing stood out as odd. Put the bike back together crossed our fingers, started right up once gas got back in the carb and sounded awesome, took the choke off and she just puuurrred. I just started to laugh, guessing that there was just some junk stuck in the carb which came out with the old gas. So we walked into town for victory tacos and beers, my treat of course!!.. haha
If it wasn't for Bill I would of had a huge headache but he just laughed and helped me out a really awesome dude.
If your ever riding through or visiting Sayulita or PV hit him up too go riding or just grab a beer.

Thanks for all the advice

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Bill and his lovely family here in Sayulita. Initially I was just planning on passing through for a few days and taking a couple of language classes. That would have been almost 3 weeks ago. Sayulita is a great little laid back town with lots of good restaurants (not helping the waistline any) and lots of activities available.

One ride that he guided me on http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=742819 was without doubt the most off-roading I've ever done. We have another ride planned to a surprise destination in a couple of days. I can't wait.

Don't believe all the hype about safety in Mexico. Use common sense and don't intentionally put yourself in harms way and you'll be fine. Common sense isn't one of my strong points and still I haven't met anything but the nicest people and the mountain riding is the stuff dreams are made of.

Give Bill a call if you're going to be coming down this way. He's really a stand up guy and you won't be disappointed if you take a day trip with him. You might even convince him to pull an overnighter if there's someplace in particular you'd like to see. Sorry Bill, that was unauthorized allocation of your time. Ask him anyway.

He's also shuttled my girlfriend and I back and forth to the water taxi departure point in Puerto Vallarta to get over to Yelapa for a week. MUCH easier than the road we found in, but not nearly as much fun

Thanks Bill!
