Anybody know if they're bringing this thing to the US anytime soon? I'd love to have one. I got rid of my Z1000 because of the cramped riding position and 4-gal gas tank. This thing would be awesome.

I've seen no mention of this bike being planned for the US.

So for sale here in the US, what is the closest alternative from Japan with upright riding position, ABS, and this kind of power, without a lot more weight?

The versys lineup is a great one. I have the 650 and love it. The 1000 is a great comfortable all rounder too

I 'm in the UK. I was at the local Kawasaki dealer on Saturday, and they said they'd sold 'a couple' of the V1000.

The big seller, still, is the Z1000SX (Ninja 1000 in the USA).

1000

I was checking out the Versys's(sp?) today and while I decided on getting the 650, I sat on the 1000. Felt a bit bigger....a bit more refined, and the windshield was bigger. Oh yeah, the seat seemed to be a bit wider, and softer.
Talking to a guy who did a long trip on one, he said the seat, while bigger, is actually less comfortable and gave him monkey butt. But he said the motor was AWESOME, lol.
Cheers

A common and easily fixed problem. The 1000 is sweet.

Got to sit on one this morning. Big and comfy. Didn't really fire me up to ask for the keys though. No doubt it's a good bike though.

Still liking it. First tank looks like around 50 mpg, gives it pretty good range. Just rode back from town in the rain, "fairing" does not too bad a job, only the outside part of the leg below the knee got wet. Thighs and lap stayed dry. Only 25 km, but raining pretty hard. Note to self: put rain suit in tank bag...

Cool2

just ordered one. will receive it next wednesday and on friday i will be doing 2 x 500km (310mi) drive. will let you know the impressions. it will be mostly tamrac, but potty and pretty destroyed one

versys + 3x hard bags (original kawa aka re-branded givi) + some small farkles are sold for 20k USD here in Russia . Yeah, prices are crazy. Still it's 4k USD lower then S10 and 6K USD lower then GS1200, so it's a no-brainer for 2-up travels.

will keep you informed

I want one. Would be a great stable mate for my 650.

The 650 was introduced to Canada a year before it was introduced to the US. So maybe next year, the V1000 will come to the US. It's already available in Canada now in brown only. MSRP $14K CAD

Stopped by a Kawasaki store in Thunder Bay this morning. Guy was washing his truck, but of course being Sunday, he didn't want to open up the showroom and show it to me. To bad. I know the store owner and the bike is pretty much on my short list to replace my 650. But being a 6 hour ride, I'll probably have to head to Winnipeg to see one. Are they much taller than the 650?

These are NOT dual sport bikes. Kawasaki is marketing both Versys for the pavement. Why are they in "Beasts"? Kawasaki has a dual sport. It's called a KLR. The Versys is a roomy upright motorcycle.

Despite its rugged looks, Kawasaki's new Versys 1000 is not a competitor for BMW's R1200GS, the model that created the adventure bike class.
Where the GS has sufficient off-road ability to make it the default choice for round-the-world adventurers with deserts and rivers to cross, the Versys 1000 shares the same basic engine and frame, as well as many minor components, as Kawasaki's Z1000 road bike. Off-road, it wouldn't see which way the BMW went.

Kawasaki has a bike that'll go everywhere a BMW R1200GS will go. For about a quarter of the price. The KLR.

Hell's bells, even a Ducati Monster can make down the odd gravel road.
