Finally got the chance to read the whole thread. Looks like I won't need gimmick syrup or ice cream banter to entice dialog here. Making good medicine will be easy.

Watched the general store vids George posted up and the last one kinda irks me a bit. The biggest blame for these closures is the consumers. Every time I see someone wearing a Cabela's t-shirt, I instead see an image of the local gunsmith or fly shop owner w/a knife in the back. And for those who buy your tires and acc from an online distributor, don't complain when your local dealer goes belly up. Man I hope this store is back up and running when I get there.

I rode through Fryeburg, ME on the Friday and made a detour to look
at the Cro-Magnon and Neanderthaler species before extinction.
Said "Hello" to Nachtflug and RPD1 and went north on Rt 113 through Evans Notch to Erroll in Northern, NH.

While I agree with buying local as I have a small business.
In the case of the general store in Barnard, It was a general store setting its prices and devotion to the 10% second owners that are seasonal. There is a 5 star resort 2miles down the road as well. and not pricing toward the 90% locals. I know as I am a local. While it was a very nice meeting place, they catered toward the tourists. Locals were tired of paying the prices. It unfortunately was a poorly managed store.

There are groups now trying to raise money to bring the store back which will be a great thing and many of us look forward to that.

As of yesterday it is open in the mornings by volunteers.

Creek House rocks. They have a serious truck-driver breakfast, perfect thing to set you up for a long day. They got hurt real bad by Irene- Route 107 was closed just west of there, and Route 12 was closed just south of them. In other words there was no other reason for anyone to drive to them.

That place AlWAYS used to be packed solid. I had breakfast there one morning last year at CroMag and there were only two other people in the place. I've actually been wondering if they were going to make it.
