This Google Map was last updated April 18.

Vt was fixing roads within days after Irene.
Much income is derived from the tourist industry.
They wasted no time fixing the roads.

Bgs update

The hours are regular enough, just limited as it is a volunteer exercise in generating enough capital to open.

Donations only.
Coffee and muffins.

...so far...

Still good.

Old Lion, hi!

You're doing a great job at sharing information for everyone! Awesome.

Hope you don't mind, but just one comment. The google map that you just posted is, in my opinion, not accurate.

I recognize that it was updated in April. Actually, because it's an Open Collaboration map, anyone can update it. My best understanding is the map was created right after the storm, and anyone who knew that a bridge was out or road closed could go in and post a "Bubble", with a description of the closure.

At this point, my guess is the map has been forgotten by most of the public who posted road closures, way back when. And now the dilemma is who's going to go in and edit out the remaining "bubbles", without going out and confirming that those spots are open again.

As I clicked the various bubbles, most were posted in September or October, and a couple in December. Most of the red bubbles that I clicked on, I know are open. A few of the red bubbles were miles away from the roads they described, easy to move them out of place.

TIMEOUT

Okay, so I just went in and edited the bubbles that I know are open. The only ones that are red that are left, I just plain haven't seen them, and they might be obscure roads.

Am I making sense?

You are making a lot of sense.
My take on the Vermont roads is that most if not all are passable.
I base this observation on a scene I witnessed shortly after Irene.
On the way back home from NH I detoured from Brattleboro, VT to
Wardsboro, Vt to look at a bike.

Had quite a time finding my way around getting there.
I did not fancy going back to Brattleboro to head west.

The locals told me that Rt 100 south to Wilmington was passable even
though a sign was posted that the road was closed.

At some point I encountered this without the asphalt covering the dirt as shown below:

A large excavator had been used to dig alluvial fill from the bank of the creek to create
a path (primitive roadway) where the road had once been.

Below shows the scene after the storm

Closer to Wilmington near Mt Snow road crews were building pavement in the rain.
Paver and Roller operating on steaming asphalt.

Switching lanes after a section was completed.
It was encouraging to see this.
I deduced that Vermont was attempting to get back to normal a.s.a.p.

This web site of WoodTV8 displays this picture:

A sign advises drivers on Route 107 in Bethel, Vt., in preparation for its reopening
Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011.

The caption reads:
"Four months and a day after Tropical Storm Irene inundated Vermont, officials have marked the reopening of the last stretch of highway that was closed by the storm."

Dan,

Good to see you coming.

BTW if you want to ride the lower half of the Puppy Dog Route up to
Silver Lake Park....

Here is a pdf file with instructions.
http://www.vtbmwmov.org/rides/PDR/2010/2010%20PDR%20Greenfield%20MA%20to%20Silver%20Lake. pdf

At
http://www.vtbmwmov.org/rides/#puppydog

you can download GPX files.
The 2012 lower route ends at Silver Lake State Park.
Scrolling down the page you can plan a ride while at the Cromag.

Here is a recent thread from Day Tripping.

This year my plans to ride From PA through the Trans Tiaga/Lab to the Maritimes have been postponed to next year. I hoping I can pick up some good advice from some of you who have ran these roads. I'll prolly still have my Versys.

The ferry ride to Newfoundland may create an Adventure Mariner known as
Jeff B.
