wednesday without rain

well, had a day off from work, its leaf season, and the weather was perfect, so it was time for a ride.
No particular plan, but needed to be at our local adv night about 6.

convieniently enough, i live on hwy 151, about 9 miles from the BRP, so off i go...
looking down into "my valley"

decided to head up towards brevard, maybe head into the lake toxaway area...
more pkwy colors

self portrait

decided id go explore 215 headed towards toxaway. more colors..

took the first right. without knowing where it goes, (looks like it may be charleys creekrd)
great road, twisty, LOTS of traction and generally in good shape!
saw a dirt road on the left, so i took it.

lots of christmas trees

found a really cool overlook rock

found a cool lookoff rock.

dirt turned to gravel, gravel to asphalt
made a rt on tanasee cr (by chance) and ended up back on 281.
great road, lots of open twisty's and very little traffic, however, started thinking about some gasoline
as luck would have it, i ended up at the intersection with 107. found gas and a cheeseburger (damn good too) at the
bears den (highly recomended, but they close at 2)

more to come ....

Wow! That looks amazing! Our trees turned in July this year, but they always go green --> brown, even during a good year. Great pictures!

after lunch, and chatting with a couple of bear hunters, i decided it was time to push on.
took a left on 107, headed towards cashiers.
lots of really nice asphalt, and very few people, great piece of road with great scenery

It really is a shame to see what our culture has done to pristine areas. gated comunities, fences, walls, and tourist crap scattered around so many of our beautiful areas, alas.
passing through all the crap that makes up cashiers i saw a sign for whitewater falls, so headed that way
Really nice road with some great views.
lake jocassee in the background

whitewater falls

continuing onwards, decided it was time to start heading back towards town,
215 looked like the obvious choice, so up i go

it has become one of my favorite roads recently, fast and flowing, great views, and in really good shape
towards the top, you can look right and look out over a really large area, typically a see of green and brown, but the fog had rolled in below me...

A word to locals. 215 from the pkwy down into canton is in terrible shape. I build roads for a living, and i still dont understand what the hell they have done. It appears that they have spread, at random, patches of really slippery stone. Mostly in corners!
however, if you can avoid crashing, some great scenery is available
a really cool rock bridge allows this to flow under the road

cool old bridge, leading to private property

heading further down, you pass yet another lake

from here it gets pretty boring, luckily, a beer awaited me at the wedge!
