Michigan Tech went down over the weekend, swept by the new #1, Minnesota-Duluth. I went to the saturday game, and in classic Tech fashion, they played em tough until about 10 minutes left in the third. Then a pair of quick, rather pathetic goals and its 5-3 final once again.

Im beginning to be discouraged by my ability to never witness an actual MTU win - four years of college and I think ive seen one victory in person. Am I bad luck or is tech just that bad?

And of course, next weekend is at minnesota, then to the GLI to play Michigan State and either Michigan or Boston College, and back to Duluth. Probably gonna be a rough stretch. At least they have a chance to beat up Northern Michigan and UAA in there.

CC hosts Alaska Anchorage this weekI'll be in the cheap seats tomorrow. Is about getting every single possible point now. This league is tight.

Go Tigers!!

The United States Air Force Academy puckers are idle untill the last days of 2011 when they visit CC and then host DUmb. The Falcons lead the AHA with 8w-2l-1t for 17 points.
Mercyhurst is close behind with 6w-1l-2t for 14 points. Mercyhurst has Canisius and Niagra this weekend for a chance at the league lead.

STAY HEALTHY FALCONS!!!

BEAT DUmb

Michigan Tech upsets #2Minnesota on the road in OT, 3-2

Edit - found the highlights, albeit poorly edited. And I really love techs road jerseys!

What kind of ticket prices are you guys looking at generally? Last weekend I managed to pay $17 for general admission at tech Kind of wanted to know how they compare nationally. Makes me want to take classes again just for the free admission

Rematch tonight. When I had season tickets, we always took the Saturday games. I hope the Gophs come out angry, that was their first home loss all year.

I could buy tickets in the 23rd row for tonights game against tech for $35 each plus fees. Getting more expensive all the time.

Don't recall exactly--- it has been about a year, but I think AFA tickets are about $12 each, on the glass, or just up. Near the end.

Cheap seats in the World Arena are $9 for many games and $14 for DUmb, Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc. I got a pair for tonight for $10 and some rice and beans that go to the food bank. I think the most expensive tix are $35.

Big time letdown for CC last night. they led 2-1 early but took a bunch of lame penalties and couldn't kill any of them. In the end it was 6-3 for the bad guys. Its on tonight!!!

GO TIGERS!!!

This Tech/Gophs game just got really ugly in the last five min of the 3rd. Could have had a real scrap if the linesmen let go.

Weekend ends in a split. Tech certainly isn't the pushover that they used to be, good games this weekend.

CC split vs Alaska this weekend. Sat. they played bad enough to lose but scored with 2.8 seconds remaining in the 3rd to squeeze out a W. They are turning me into an old man with this crap. A short-handed goal kept them in it.

Mercyhurst split as well so they now have 16 points in the AHA standings. The Unites States Air Force Academy still leads that league with 17 points.

Good stuff on the windy hill, barely getting by down in the floodplane.

DUmb split at Bimidji.

How do the points figure in standings? How do they calculate standings in College Hockey? (No, I don't feel like googling. )

Same way they do Football and Basketball, it is a mystery. But they have a tournament to alleviate the distress at seasons end.

Just a for instance, BU is ahead of Merrimack in Hockey East standings, yet well down in the ranked standings from them. It is hard to believe the perrenial favorites from Hockey East have fallen on such difficult times. UVM is last in conference (they did beat Minnesota once so there is some talent there), UNH not much better and the Bears (UofM) are so so. Still a lot of Hockey to be played yet so it can all change and may.

In Division III though, the Cadets are still kicking butt.....Essayons.

I'm talking standings, not rankings.

Points within conferences are 2 for a win, one for a tie. Leader in conference standings at the end of the regular season get an automatic NCAA berth.

The main calculation to fill out the rest of the 16-team field is the PairWise rankings. They take head-to-head matchups of most of the teams (I think everybody in D-I over .500) and the more teams above .500 you've beat, the higher your ranking, with ties broken by head-to-head matchups. USCHO updates the PairWise all year, you can check it on there site every Tuesday, I think. Link

The NCAA Hockey tournament selection is probably the fairest I've seen in the major sports, probably because the sample size is reasonable small.
