24 HP and 220 pounds doesn't equal 26 HP and 300 pounds where I come from. 24 HP at 220 pounds is a quick little machine with the grunt of 350cc. |

Exactly. My LC4E has a light weight aftermarket exhaust system, titanium bits and has been stripped of buddy pegs, brackets and everything else I could do without. It is down to right at 300 pounds. Which is not bad considering that makes it comparable to Japanese 250 dual sports.
But then I get on my MXC 200 and it makes me hate the 640 offroad. I can literally carry the 200 over to my work stand and set it on top. The LC4E is everything I can do to yank it up and on top. I was riding with a guy a few weeks back with a WR250R and a plated EXC 200 and he felt the same way about those two bikes. Riding a 220 pound bike offroad is magical. Something we have forgotten since dual sports first packed on that extra tonnage back in the 1980's and never lost it.

Free ride bikes have to be very small niche market. I think KTM could get a better return on their investment if they developed a 690 adventurer.

You do realize that KTM's market niche is small niche markets, right?

50 state legal from the factory?
I say the more choices the better no matter what the skeptics have to say.

24bhp that's at the rear tire on most things. bhp is brake horse power. most bikes are rated for hp at the crank. it's probably making much closer to 30hp.
but then that's just my guess.

They bring this thing to the US and Mrs. Stinky is getting a new bike. I've been waiting years for something like this, backed up by a legitimate dealer network.
C'mon KTM!!!!

This bike is the ultimate CHICK bike! I have been saying for years that KTM (or someone) should build a serious bike with the proper proportions for the women folk. Now they have done it, and my bank account is going to suffer, I have 3 women to buy bikes for! ![]() Bundy

I'd like to know more about the transmission and comfortable cruising speeds. Otherwise though, I'm happy to see more street legal bikes coming out in the 350-400 range (cheap insurance here :P) I suppose given how light it is, it might be a little scary at highway speed though eh?

On the other hand on this side of the pond few people are really interested in a 690 adventure. KTM sells bikes worldwide, but it is an European firm, so their marketing could differ from what most ADVrider thumper fellows expect...
