I am sorry but all that stuff you just mentioned is what makes it an adventure for me. Bottom line is if I can't ride the CD exactly I will find plenty of things to do and see while going North. I grew up in Wyoming so I am not really concerned with the month of July but May, June, and September I would be watchful of. September can throw you a couple curve balls and you need to be prepared and May/June you can pretty much guarantee fresh snow along with the winter snow pack at least in southern Wyoming.

Might as well put me down for riding a KLR 685....at least that's the plan for now.
606's for the rear...not sure about the front tire yet...it will likely only see a fraction of the mileage the rear wheel gets

There is a thread that I have been following:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=701552

The Adventures of Tyson and Hobbs

that covers a lot of the passes in CO and indicates that as late as the end of August there was still snow from last winter blocking some passes. The thread starts in June and goes until the end of September and is worth reading for the photos alone. There is a wealth of current information about places to go, routes, roads, etc.

I did this ride 2 years ago and you can only make tenative plans at this point. The reason being is the amount of snow fall from now until around May. The passes make up their own mind and Mother Nature can throw you a curve ball. I watched the infomation on a web site that showed what passes were open, it was a 4X4 web site. I ended up leaving the LA area on July 12th and crossed over to the south end and started going north on the next day, the 13th. Going south to north was my route since I had other plans once I got towards the Canadian Line. Only had some minor rain that did not alter my route at all, however there were some sections that I changed up due to fires etc.

Just plan what you need where you want to go and wait on the weather so you can have some sort of idea for the departure date. Unlike an Alaskan trip that I have done twice I would not even start this ride until late June, but that is my opinion. There are some great camping spots and things to see.

Time to pack up camp and hit the trail. Do we wait to hit the trail after a leisurely breakfast say @9 or do we pack up and head out with the sunrise? As you can see from the time of this post, I vote for early.

Oh, BTW I plan to ride the GSA with TKC spooned on by Bruce after the slab portion of the trip.

it is true that my trailer could end up in Tucson with a friend of 35+ years. He has also expressed a desire to participate in the ride to some extent. He suggested that he could shadow my ride in his 4x4 in the event that I end up going solo. I do like the Idea of starting the ride on fresh rubber and a longish ride back to Tucson when it's all over. Most likely I'll be running TKC front and rear. The rear tire is TBD though. I like the T63 mich and the D 606.

Dates?

OK, what do you guys think of june 30 - July 22..that's 3 weeks (23 days)? Let me know if this works with your schedule. Don't worry about the size of the group right now since from the TLH experience I am quite sure the herd will thin.
