I changed my oil today, but other than that the only contact I've had with the bike was to put the cover on it. I've only been able to stare longingly at the KLR as I back out the driveway in the FATNBLDMOBILE to work each day this week. Looks like it's gonna be another couple days at least. Winter sucks. Oh well, it'll make give me another week or so on the last bit of tread on my front tire. Gotta save up for a new one anyway.

I had no idea motorcycle tires wear out so quickly, dang!
You need to meet my buddy Ron in Quinque (99 KLR). He had tread on his front tire when we rode last week but his the rear was down to nothing.
(Not that I would ever do that...). Yeah, bikes get good fuel mileage but they sure go through tires.
Good weather for lubing those suspension bearings huh? I'm happy to report that I finally made a proper SAE cord and put it on the bike so I can plug in the battery tender/heated vest. Be nice to have some extra heat these days.

Dual sport tires...

Like OldnoGPS said, "bikes get good fuel mileage but they sure go through tires".

I have only run a few different types of tires on the XR. It came (to me) with Metzeler Enduro III's and I have since run through another set, amongst a lot of other different tires. I got 7,000-8,000 miles out of the Metzelers.
I also like the Dunlop D-606 and have run, hmmm, 5 sets(?) so far. I get about 3,000-4,000 miles out of them.
I prefer the knobby tread so when I DO go off road I'm not worried about my tires being up to the task. Surprisingly the Dunlop's are very well behaved on pavement and in the twisties. The Metzeler's are OK in all conditions but mud. The Dunlop's average half the price of the metzelers and with half the mileage the only thing different I have to do is change tires twice as often. The D-606 front wears kind of funny but not that big a deal.
Looking for an alternative I have had a Michelin T-63 Knobby on the front for over 8,000 miles now. I could probably get another 1,000 out of it but it is handling kind of funny at slow speed while turning. The T-63 is one of the lowest price, high mileage Knobby tires I have found. It doesn't have tall Knobs so it wouldn't be the best in mud but should get you through.

Right now I have one T-63 front and two D-606's rears sitting in the garage right now. That should get me through another 8,000 miles before having to buy tires again.

If it wasn't so foggy this morning I would have ridden to work, and grabbed a tag on the way home. Dangit!

I started to go after this today but had to go the other direction unfortunately. When I re-read the clues I was confused though.

The road I think this is on isn't in Greene...

Ted, am I wrong or are you? (knowing you it's most likely me that's wrong...)

I can tell you there is another one of those roads, and it is in Greene. Only reason I know is because I passed it many time coming home to stanardsville from Crozet.

And I found the church. So I know where this road is. Couldn't find the old building on google maps but hope to find it when I ride that road.

But when will I have time to do that? Hmm

Yes, it's in Greene. It's about 2 miles due west of Stanardsville (and the road, with the name, is on page 68 of your Atlas and gazeteer)
I had a nice 4 hour ride today. North Fork of Tye River Road is slimy FYI, and the Montebello Store didn't have any Chili today. Bummer.
Took me two hours to clean the dirt/salt/crud off of the bike and gear. I think VDOT is mixing oatmeal and Elmers glue with whatever they're putting down.

Crap.

I got it now. I was making it too hard. There's a "Run" NE of there that I somehow got fixated on. Oh well. Glad I second thought going after it!

I got some good riding in today too. It was one of those "leave home cold and mid ride I'm just about too warm" days. I need to re-work my layers.

Montebello chili huh? I never had the nerve to try it...

I would have headed after it yesterday or today, but the Beastie is in the middle of an exhaust conversion. Installing a 2-into-1 system with a Gauldi can. Hope to finish it up the first of next week. Should be done building my locking mount for the Montana by then, too.

Remember that other Albemarle Park? The one that actually is the newest one?

Outside the gate, behind the sign, behind this stone

If you have time I recommend looking in all the drainage pipes while you're there. It's a barrel of fun.

Your bike looks like it's on pavement.
