I did think about it!!!! But, I'm sure they won't want a bunch of KLR riders showing them up.....I went to BC 20 years ago and bought a pan and had a go in some remote river.....looked behind a rock and dug down a foot maybe......I panned for a few hours and found 3 largish flakes, compared to what they were finding in the begining......but I watch the show every week just for the Snoble son and grandfather team.....they seem more the gold mining types and much more believeable imho. Plus not to mention much less drama than the Hoffman crew....If I were up there to mine for GOLD, that machinery would never shut down, I'd wear it out in one season digging for gold!
If you go to the old dredge #4 I believe it is outside of Dawson for the guided tour, well worth the $6 imho, you will see a local company going gang busters just down the road from the dredge.....and that was 2 years ago, before the spike in gold prices. God knows what they are doing now.

But I watch it for the reminder of where I'm returning to......the far north!

92 days before we set out......

Anyone have a current contact for the Gold Rush CG in Dawson City?

It looks like I may be too late to get a dry camping spot at the Gold Rush, but the number listed on the web seems to be out of service today.

Anyone have any other suggestions for good camping in Dawson for the D2D? Been since 01' I last camped in Dawson.

Cheers! BHB

Good news! I went back through this thread and somehow those Two Moto Kiwi's found the info for the winter number at the Gold Rush CG!

Good news is that sites with electricity and water are still available. The dry sites are full.

Act fast! Pat said they are looking to head up Mid April and open up the CG and get that Summer Number active.

Cheers!

Don't force me to express my opinion. Make it if all else fails and make sure you do not get booked into the main building and you will get some sleep. It should be as cheap as you can stay in Dawson.

I say nothing, I know nothing.

If you can get in, grab it. They have great cabins and the main building is good to go. I will post to this thread tomorrow. I will get our front desk to do a survey of all the places in town to find out availability for D2D weekend to provide a heads up.
It is solstice weekend this year which we have been trying to avoid and also the weekend of a local first nations gathering and so take what you can get asap if you don't want to sleep on the ground.

This is potentially big news for me. My ancestors are from the Metlakatla Band of the Tsimshian First Nations near Prince Rupert BC. I'm getting hold of the Council of Yukon First Nations to see what all's going on for Aboriginal Day while we're there in Dawson City. Good times.

Aboriginal Day Thursday June 21

I may try to get into town a little early in order to catch some of the festivities.

I contacted a few people of the Tr'ondek Hwech'in First Nation in Dawson City and they gave me this date.

One of the people I emailed said they, like me, belonged to the Wolf Clan. I told them I'd wear my vest so maybe they could spot me. Anyone else reading this is more than welcome to come up and introduce themselves too. I always enjoy meeting other ADV'ers.

And for those of you who may wish to read more about my people, the Tsimshian Tribe, and the Hazelton - Prince Rupert BC area, I highly recommend 'Challenge The Wilderness' by Tomlinson. Here's a synopsis: http://vnesdoly.blogspot.com/2005/10...ilderness.html

I'm not planning on having the hat in Dawson but this is me in the vest around Christmas. Marko The Wild Halfbreed

Cool. Very glad to hear you're into that sorta thing. Now I gotta decide when to hit Dawson. I really enjoy hanging at The Eagle's Claw in Tok with the gang on Wed night but now I'll have to decide if I wanna get to Dawson earlier.

Hey everyone,

We have been planning on this trip for almost two years and we cannot wait to get there!!!! I will be there with my son (12 y/o) and was curious if the dinner is "kid friendly"? If it's a wild free for all we'll just do something different during the dinner. I've seen the pictures of all the events and it looks like he'll be ok to be around it???

I've never seen any behavior at the dinner that would be inappropriate for 12 year old to be around.
